• In need of a new motherboard

So my 2+ years old GIGABYTE Ga-P35-DS3 died on me recently. I can't get my computer on anymore. All fans are on, the drives get power, the graphics card cooler is active and RAM gets hot, but there's no signal at all. Sometimes I was able to start the system after many times of pressing the power button, basically turning the system on and off for like 20-50 times. Then some day I came to the idea to remove the RAM cooler and it helped somehow. So the system started when the RAM was warm enough. But lately, nothing seems to help. No CMOS clear, exchanging of other hardware parts (RAM, graphics card, PSU, harddrives), nothing. When the system was able to boot, it runs all stable. The shit is really just to get it booting at all. I'm out of ideas what to do... so I just want to get a new motherboard that is compatible with my hardware, which is: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Sockel 775 RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2 1066Mhz (or more) GFX: Gainward HD4870X2 - PCI-E 16x 2.0 (takes 3 PCI slots) another PCI-E 16x slot for Crossfire would be great, but ain't really necessary DRIVES: 4x SATA drives (2x SATA raid0, 1x normal SATA, 1x SATA DVD drive) I don't mind if there won't be any raid configs possible anymore. I'd like to stick to Gigabyte mobos, coz I got used to its BIOS configurations, but I dunno if there's any better other brand motherboards I could also use. I heard ASUS is good... So any suggestions? . . . Or should I go for an I7 920 CPU, compatible mobo and DDR3 RAM? Money: not over 150€ (not sure if I go for an I7 build though) Location: Germany Where I get my stuff: Either Ebay or local store where I can order as good as everything.
This is in Germany so I don't know if it is near..... Though it is €189.21, is that to much?
If by store you mean mediamarkt, that will be very expensive, (I don't live in germany, but I have been there) and it seems like a german version of best buy, get it from an online store.
I don't need you guys telling me where to get a motherboard from, my problem is rather WHICH ONE?? And yes, Germany is expensive as fuck, I know.
Here in America we have something called http://newegg.com
Ill see if i can find anything on new egg that you can find in your store.. [editline]09:55PM[/editline] GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128380
Hmm, this is a P43 mobo. Gigabyte has also newer P45 chipsets. Would it make much difference taking P43 instead of P45?
Probably not..... [editline]12:11AM[/editline] It might be more cost effective to stay at a slightly lower chipset..... But i can't be sure... I have yet to study prices.
p45 = crossfire and DDR2 1200mhz ram p43= what you need
I can get a GA-EP45-UD3 for around 100€ http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3099 Supports: DDR2 RAM up to 1366Mhz 4x sticks 775 socket CPUs 2x SATA raid 6x normal SATA drives 1x PCI-E 2.0 16x (better than mine non 2.0) Should suit my stuff I guess. Good or nay?
Yay, go for it.
Ugh . . . now what do I do about the windows activation when changing a motherboard? The activation isn't supposed to work, is it? I got win vista home premium btw.
