Won't believe that they learned their lesson until I play it myself.
I enjoyed Dragon Age II more than Origins/Awakening, mainly because my character wasn't a mute this time. Only problem I have had so far is import from Origins/Awakening not bringing over some flags.
So "innovation" is removing large piles of dialog options and making your game exactly like mass effect. I'll take the bland generic version of your game, thank you.

He wasn't a mute, they just didn't voice act the lines. Sheesh, you people won't accept anything unless it's shoved in your face, will you?
Well first fire Hamburger Helper
Drop the damn dialog wheel. I liked it alot better in Origins.

Unfortunately, you're right. Bioware saw that Mass Effect was a more successful franchise, so they tried making Dragon Age the same. It just couldn't work.
Mass Effect is the more action/fast paced of the two as it always was designed to be.
Dragon Age was the more rpg of the two, basing combat more on behind the scenes dice rolls than twitch skills/ability to aim. DA2 tried to morph the two, but ended up doing neither amazingly well.
I'm hoping for DA3 they take what was good of DA: O and DA2, making a better art style than either, and make the character have voice acted lines (even if there are multiple races, SR2 was sort of able to do it, although there's less dialogue in that game).
da2 was fast(er) paced and ME2 is fast paced as well, doesn't suddenly mean ME2 got morphed into da2.
the only thing that reminded me of me2 was the (bad) dialog wheel but fuck that, I'm not going to dislike a game because of a dialog wheel.
I liked da2 less than dao, mainly because of the horrible story in da2. in my opinion they also screwed up things like interaction with other companions and on how the levels looked. but I still found it worth playing and I hope they'll improve Da3 with less flashy combat, better story and interaction with people and more different areas.

Actually DA:O sold more than any Mass Effect, in fact it sold more than any Bioware game ever.

Which makes it even stranger that they would fuck it up like they did in DA2 (they probably thought: "Oh we'll make it EVEN bigger", which bit them in the ass).
I actually really liked Dragon Age II, but it's a shame it wasn't as polished as Origins felt. I liked the personal story of DA2, but can understand why some wanted it to be more 'epic'. The combat system was an improvement in my eyes, it just had a severe lack of animations and balancing. If they take the good things and merge them into a Dragon Age 3 that's more like Origins again, then it has promise.
My problems with Dragon Age 2 came from the fact that the world was incredibly small and limited, the areas were constantly reused, and it overall felt like they stripped away much of the breadth on the RPG side of things. It felt like they tried to focus just on a limited area for everything, perhaps thinking they'd better develop the story, but it just felt like you were given the freedom you'd expect from an RPG.
Though Merril and Varrick are probably my favorite characters from the series.

Weird. I'm guessing they wanted to attract the Mass Effect fanbase then.

Do you have any proof of that? I think you're overestimating how well DA:O sold, I find it hard to believe it beat ME2.

Love the combat and the overall feel of the DA2. Be it an expansion or a sequel they're developing, I hope they put a little more heart into it this time round

AFAIK ME2 came out after DA:O, so Dragon Age was better selling at the time. Pretty sure ME2 completely trumped DA:O in sales

ME2 came out only 2 months after DA:O.
It needs more item pop-ups in the first 5 seconds of the game due to the piles of release day dlc and preorder bonuses
A good role playing experience is one where you live in an elvish gutter, abused and beaten with a full set of maximum-tier dragon armour, a high tier helmet and a set of overpowered rings.
You guys shareholders or something? So concerned about sales between the two franchises.

how, it's almost a step back from the first game in a lot of ways

namely the talimancers with merril, aka 'badly written pile of shit'
I loved the first game, but didn't like the second one. Don't get me wrong, the second game is very polished and a well made game, but I liked the first one for the more tactical combat and difficulty. The second game tried to make it a more action oriented hack and slash, which I disliked.
hahahaha no way bioware
this is all they are now

"HOYL SHIT! A GAMES COMPANIE IS SEELING XTRA STUFF FOUR THERE GAMES! THEY AR SO GREEDEE AND EVEL!"
Get the hell over it. You want extra stuff, you pay for it. Valve gives it out for free because they figure it is a better way to get customers to buy their games, they are the exception, not the rule.

Okay. Lets just take some game content out and sell it back to you. Nothing is wrong with that, Right guys?
Right guys?
Guys?

Because that content was even supposed to be included as part of the game before in anyway, and not as something extra for people who want more.
