• Wii-U is dead- Everyone Panic
Before you read the rest of this article, hold your horses, there’s probably an explanation for this all. A sign appeared at a shop of the major Japanese electronics retailer Edion marking the Wii U on sale due to “End of production by the Manufacturer.” You can see a couple pictures of the sign at the bottom of the post, shared by Twitter user Guppy. The sign says: “Limited time sale due to end of production by the manufacturer. Limited stock available!!” As I said before, there’s most probably an explanation for this, as the official Nintendo website shows no notice of any end of the production of the Wii U. Most probably it’s a mistake. Another possibility is that Nintendo might be looking into discontinuing the current offer (the sale is for the Premium Set) to sell a different bundle. Of course the shop could also be trying to get rid of its stock before Nintendo applies a price cut, or we could be witnessing the knee-jerk reaction of a store manager after the recent news on the axing of Nintendo’s sales forecast for this fiscal year. At the moment we really don’t know what this is really about, but it’s definitely very strange, as Edion is a very large and respected retailer. That said we encourage you to take this with a large pinch of salt and consider it mostly a funny Sunday freak for now. Most probably it’s not what it looks like. We’ll keep you posted if anything new surfaces on the issue, but I wouldn’t expect to see the Wii U as a console really going the way of the dodo any time soon.
source [sp]I'm kidding about the panic part[/sp]
very pessimistic I doubt nintendo would abandon their console; they never did before, through bad sales or good
the writing in the OP's article is atrocious
From the article itself:
[W]e encourage you to take this with a large pinch of salt and consider it mostly a funny Sunday freak for now. Most probably it’s not what it looks like.
I wouldn't worry about it.
From the article itself: I wouldn't worry about it.
It's why I put the spoiler bar in OP :v:
just wait until super smash brothers comes out
just wait until super smash brothers comes out
Just wait until Pikmin comes out Just wait until W101 comes out Just wait until Mario comes out They probably shouldn't be waiting anymore duder.
Didn't they have a $250mil loss with the WiiU or something? I wouldn't be surprised if they abandon it, i seriously don't know ANYONE that bought one/plan to buy one/want one. Christ even PS2's sell better than it.
Update: the sign probably indicates the end of production of the “Family Premium Set,” which is indeed the bundle shown on the cart. The sign actually pinpoints the “Premium Set,” but the discrepancy may simply be due to the store not being very familiar with the difference.
srsly
That's unfair to any console to compare it's sales to the PS2. That thing was untouchable.
True, PS2 sales are still quite huge here (given that its cheap as hell and that the PS3/PS4 are expensive as shit still). But i still think Nintendo should stick with the DS, there is absolutely NO reason to buy a WiiU over a PS2/PS3/PS4/XB360/XB1.
srsly
Funs over I guess :v:

So they're just discontinuing one of their bundles? Last time the did this (basic package) the system got a price drop shortly after. But I don't think we'll be seeing another price drop this soon.
"Wii-U is dead!" Suddenly Smash Bros lands
Just wait until Pikmin comes out Just wait until W101 comes out Just wait until Mario comes out They probably shouldn't be waiting anymore duder.
Also this, even though i love SSB and some of the stuff coming to the Wii U, im still not going to buy an expensive console (Don't know for other countries, but no way in hell im paying what it goes for in here) to play 3 or 4 games. The exact same shit happened with my Wii, i remember only enjoying like 4 games, even though i bought like 60. [editline]20th January 2014[/editline]
"Wii-U is dead!" Suddenly Smash Bros lands
Please stop using this as an argument for the WiiU bad sales, a single game WILL NOT help it. Hell at this point nothing will.
That's unfair to any console to compare it's sales to the PS2. That thing was untouchable.
Not comparing its sales to the PS2 in the past. He's comparing its sales to the PS2 right now. Do you understand how pathetic that is?
Most probably.
I don't get all the panic, the only thing being discontinued here is the basic bundle.
Please stop using this as an argument for the WiiU bad sales, a single game WILL NOT help it. Hell at this point nothing will.
Pretty much this, it's need more/better marketing if anything. Between the system's launch and the end of this year it will have a decently solid line up of games, but no one will buy since they either don't know it exists or what the hell it is. [editline]19th January 2014[/editline]
I don't get all the panic, the only thing being discontinued here is the basic bundle.
The baisic bundle was pretty much discontinued last year. If you still see some in a store it's most likely a system they were never able to sell or didn't return to Nintendo. the only way to get a white Wii U is to get the skylanders bundle which supposedly using the left over basic systems.
the white wii u shouldn't of existed in the first place when the difference between the prices of your models is so small, there's no point in the smaller one existing

WiiU is shit for 3 major reasons: bad marketing, over 50% of the game are ports and no gamedev wants to work with Nintendo because of how terrible it is to make games for the WiiU.

I think Nintendo really should've evaluated how to properly upgrade their console, software, and online infrastructure to better compete with Sony and MS. The hardware's not bad, but it's not what devs would want, and certainly can't compete in some terms with the other consoles, so ports may not be common in the future, especially when its low sales make it harder to justify ports. The software's not bad, but compared to even the PS3 and 360 it steel feels like the online and even functions of the console just aren't modern. I love Nintendo to death, but they really need to learn to get with the times.

The person they interviewed was talking about the prelaunch dev kits which were awful. The current dev kit is no different than developing a game for the Xbox 360 which is why a lot of the ports are half assed Xbox ports.
