Ron Paul thinks FEMA isn't necessary for Hurricane Irene response, that it should be like 1900

[release]PAUL: I live on the Gulf Coast, we put up with hurricanes all the time. I have Galveston in my district, and FEMA's only about 30 or 40 years old, I don't know exactly how old, but the worst disaster we have ever had was in my district in Galveston, in 1900. Before FEMA, the local people rebuilt the city, built a sea wall, and they survived without FEMA. It should be like 1900, 1940, 1950, 1960. It's just that people have a lack of confidence in how free markets work, how local governments work, how neighbors ought to take care of themselves. It should be coordinated, but it should be coordinated voluntarily with the states.[/release]

If this doesn't convince you that Ron Paul isn't great, then nothing will.
I never asked for this.
Yet 6,000 to 12,000 people died in the 1900 Galveston Hurricane.

FEMA is conspiracy anyways. They'll force everyone into into camps and use vaccines as a form of population control. Black helicopters will drop down blue helmeted UN peace keepers to take away our guns form my cold dead hands.
Well, considering that FEMA never does anything anyway...
They weren't especially efficient during Katrina, but any response is better than no response.
I never asked for this.
While I get the reference I don't necessarily see how that comment fits in this thread.
Then he should run his entire campaign without a tv ad or any technological help because "It should be just like 1900"
Old men ruining the world, what's new.
Other than the fact FEMA is mentioned.

He's better than Obama and Bachmann I can tell you that much.
My mother works for FEMA, specifically floodplain management. Her entire department is working all this weekend, even sleeping overnight at the office, because they're busting their asses trying to deal with the hurricane and coordinate disaster management to keep utilities working and roads clear through the storm. If it weren't for FEMA, things like this would be a lot worse.

Sharkey/Bachmann 2012
I don't really trust Fema since they tried to steal the typhoon system.
Oh yes, because the 1900's were just a wonderful time.
