Why does every PC game these days have to REQUIRE you to use Steam to play?
I'd rather it be an optional choice instead.
TBH I'd much rather have Steam than anything else for DRM.
Because Valve just did it so good.
Steam is now the PC platform, get used to it.

But I prefer to actually own my games myself.
And it's nice if I could say, let my dad or my brother install the game on their computers as well, instead of having to buy 3 copies of the same game.

Who the fuck said you couldn't buy the game physically in stores or order them from the internet?
Oh and that 3-installs-only thingy is featured only with SecuROM and Mafia 2 doesn't have that. Only a handful of games does (like 3 or 6).
yay steam achievements

oh wait, i don't buy singleplayer games.

When they say the game is "shipping with steamworks" it usually means you HAVE to have Steam in order to play the game, which means your game is tied to one account.

If you'd read license agreements since the early 90's, you'd know when you buy a game, it's just a license for you to play it and only you, not to share with people you know.
You could share your account with your brother, but that goes against the steam TOS, just like sharing cds in the old days.

Meh, I guess I just miss the good 'ol days of CD-keys and sharing cd's.
I hate all this internet connection required 24/7 stuff.

Now why would they do that? That would make 2K lose nearly 50% of the market if they would release the game only digitally. I can also pre-order the game in shops here in Sweden as well, by the way.
It also strikes me weird why they would all of sudden say "Oh we're releasing it on Steam only" a month before release. That would mean that they would lose several months producing and investing in the covers and the discs themselves for the game.

Okay so with steam the game will be tied to one account right? Yet here you are saying you miss the days of cd keys (which hasn't even passed; this game will come with one). With cd keys you could only instal it to ONE computer, the cd key is rendered useless until you uninstall the game which automatically validates the key.
I don't see your logic.
One more stop towards world domination. Yay steam!
This I like

When you buy a physical copy of a game with steamworks, you have to register the CD key with steam. When they say "steam only" it just means that you have to register the CD key with steam.

Re-selling is the same thing as sharing the game, it goes against the TOS.
[editline]11:28PM[/editline]
Things like sharing and re-selling games have always been illegal, people just never bother to read what they agree with.

I dont see how I dont own the box with the gamediscs inside. Im talking about the physical form bro

You own the license to play the game.
Only one license per game box.

This.
2nd hand games are bad for companies, Imagine you created a game of your own, and wanted to sell a lot of copies, only to find that a single person bought the game, then just sold it to another for a cheaper price ( keeping in mind 2 people have now played/owned the game, but only 1 copy was bought from you!) You've missed a sale, and some other company/store/person, has got money for it.
Pre-ordered.
Hopefully I won't regret it.

Wow, stole my words.
So many pirates whining over not being able to do illegal things with their games in this thread.
It's like whining over Tapes being overrun by CD's, seeing as you can't put a CD in your radio and record the radio session to get free music and give it to your neighbour.
