Everytime I load a map, I get a white screen for two seconds, and then it crashes. I guess I'm not the only one with this problem, and Valve just needs to fix their shit. I have tried to verify the game files, it redownloaded one file, but it didn't work.
Any solutions? I just want to play Portal 2 :saddowns:
I would submit a ticket to Steam support then that way they can help you better and get a patch together if other people are suffering the same problem.
If you have a firewall or antivirus try adding portal.exe to your trusted files manually. It was either that or switching server locations and reverifying *twice that fixed that problem for me.
I have already tried disabling my AV completely. Redownloading the game now. It probably won't fix it though.
Specs?
Try verifying the integrity of the game cache.
Specs?
Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz (Should be more than capable)
2GB RAM (Yea I know)
nVidia GT220 (Runs source games with ~100FPS on med-high)

Well, I just redownloaded it, and now I get this:

I was getting the same thing and reinstalling fixed it.
Update C++ runtime. Duh.

Oh. Derp. I'll try that, thanks for pointing it out.

It still does not work
:saddowns:
Make sure EVERYTHING is updated.
I GOT IT TO WORK!
Here's what I did:
First, I moved the "portal 2" folder to my C: drive (Steam is on my D: drive as you can see in the screenshot I posted earlier)
Then, I created a symbolic link from "portal 2" on my C: drive to the "common" folder that is on my D: drive (Following this tutorial: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12843552)
And would you believe it? It fixed the problem :woop:
Still, thanks for the help
Running as administrator worked for me.
Did you by any chance do this:

Well, considering you can't make a portal on another portal, I would assume that both portals would just close.
[editline]21st April 2011[/editline]
Also, you can't move a surface with a portal on it without that portal closing anyway.

Also the size of the tables changed.

what defines when the portal closes, as the portals are constantly accelerating with the earth. is there a certain point? in that case, the portal could be moved inside at an extremely slow rate.
At some point in Portal 2 there are moving platforms and you can easily place portals on them

Oh yeah. When you [sp]destroy the neurotoxin generator.[/sp] Good point.

Although still doesn't explain the tablet size changing, although I didn't draw it so :v:
The tablets have to be large enough to hold a portal on them (assuming portals can only be generated in 1 size), so it's technically impossible to get a portal inside another one because you can only do that when one object is smaller than the size of a portal.

Couldn't someone make a map which has a moving platform and a stationary block in front of the platform?
I think having a portal go into another portal is the equivalent of dividing by zero.

Okay, so now we know it's something related to the graphics.

What? And no, I already solved the problem.
I had a fun time with compatibility settings. To get Livestream Procaster to work with it, I had to run as admin. Sounds simple, right? Nope. Spent two hours trying to keep it from crashing instantly on startup. Eventually, I was able to use Xfire's streaming.
You would think a program would work better as administrator, not crashing on startup.
I can't get the game to run, it crashes to desktop after the Valve opening video.
I haven't finished the co-op story yet and I'm stuck on this old computer for at least a week :suicide:
Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3GHz
2.5GB of DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 7600GS 256MB
Try disabling UAC. See if that helps. It was very finicky about permissions.
Why do people install programs to a drive other than C:? It always messes things up somehow.

Well gee, maybe they have more than one harddrive and their C: drive is full.
