So...
Guillermo Del Toro is making a horror film. It's going to be awesome.
MPAA insists Guillermo Del Toro's 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark' has to be rated R
"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," a remake of the television thriller from producer Guillermo Del Toro and director Troy Nixey, tells the story of a young girl (Bailee Madison) who moves into an old house with her father (Guy Pearce) and step-mother (Katie Holmes) that has an ancient ash pit and chimney in the basement. When she makes the mistake of opening the pit, the things that live in there decide they want to take her down with them.
Del Toro talking about "Don't be Afraid of the Dark" at Comic Con

Talks about how the movie got an "R" rating.

I was at comic con on Friday and saw the clips of the movie and I can definitely say that this movie will be one of the scariest horror movies to come out in a while. It was a very goosebumpy experience.
Unfortunately there isn't a trailer or movie clip yet, but as soon as there is, you should go check it out.
Katie Holmes makes me a little less excited than I should be for this.
I love this kind of ghost/supernatural horror and Guillermo Del Tero is awesome.
son of a bitchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Fuck yeah
Guillermo Del Toro is amazing, he will do this good...
But why did he drop The Hobbit :(

because of mgm's financial trouble they had to drop it, including james bond.
I saw the original, it's damn scary. And it's a tv movie!
It's sort of like Paranormal Activity in a way. The plot was a woman moves into a new house with her husband. The local handyman helps them out, and warns the woman to leave the fireplace in the basement(which is all boarded up) alone. Being a woman, she decides to open it up- big mistake. What follows is pure creepy, paranoid terror.
Needless to say, this new version has a radically different storyline(a kid? wtf?). I don't if that's a good thing or not yet.

Are you honestly doubting Guillermo Del Toro?
Jeeze Guillermo Del Toro is fucking hilarious.

I hate to break it to you but Troy Nixey is the director.
Now I do believe Del Toro has faith in this project and that's why he's involved. That's why I haven't dismissed it outright as a doomed remake.
He's also doing Disney's Haunted Mansion. I love GDT. He also said he's still working on At the Mountains of Madness

When did I say his directing abilities?
I like how the poster is a drawing. It feels like old-timey scary movies.
When did I say his directing abilities?
Okay, let's play it your way.
Do you really expect ANYONE connected to a movie coming out to say "you know what, this movie didn't turn out so well, sorry"?
So then, having someone NOT directing the movie(producer, star, whoever) say great things about the upcoming movie means what exactly? That's right, not much.
Del Toro does have a rep to maintain, so like someone with a good Ebay feedback record, you want to trust him with your money. That's the only reason I think this has a chance to be decent.
so I guess that the fact that Del Toro has enough confidence in it to put his name on it means nothing?
You're contradicting yourself with that last bit too, if him not directing the movie means his word means nothing then you wouldn't think it'll be decent just because he trusts his money in it.
I think this will be a film not to watch alone.
"Horror needs to have balls... and these balls have to be sweaty and wrinkled... and horrifying." :v:
Haha

I added the trailer to the first post.

No, because he didn't like all the waiting. Peter Jackson is now making the Hobbit instead.
I absolutely shat myself at that trailer. That is the face of everything I am scared of [sp]under those covers.[/sp]
oh look its an actual fucking update

The delay was caused by a negative response from preview audiences. A lot of the film was re-shot.
That's not very reassuring.
That's not very reassuring.
How so? It shows that they took the feedback and applied it to the movie...I'd be put off if they DIDN'T change it according to what people recommend to them.

I heard that Del Toro was assigned this film because "At the Mountains of Madness" was going to be too expensive, so they gave him a cheap horror flick to do instead. He was pretty pissed, because he is absolutely in love with Lovecraft's work. Most of the characters in Hellboy that weren't in the comics were inspired by his descriptions of the monsters.

This films original release date: January 21, 2011
Mountains of Madness announced as dead : March 2011
I don't know who you heard that from but i don't think they know what they're talking about. Even suggesting a film he wrote was forced upon him doesn't make any sense. Also he's just the producer, making sure his script is done right. He's not the director.

Oh shit, you're right. I wonder what film he's directing, then. Seems to be "Pacific Rim," according to IMDB. I remember hearing that the film sounded mediocre, but the summary for the film is fucking awesome:
When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.
Seriously holy shit

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
well not exactly but kind of.
