"Donald Trump had his first face-to-face meeting as president-elect with another world leader today when he spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Trump Tower in New York City -- the first test of Trump's resolve to stand by caustic campaign rhetoric that left many world leaders questioning his foreign policy agenda.
Following the meeting, Abe told reporters the meeting was "very candid" and that he has "great confidence" in Trump."
I can't tell if that is a good or bad thing.

Meeting with Japan's prime minister and leaving a good impression as opposed to fucking up is probably a good thing
I can't tell if that is a good or bad thing.
He met with a world leader and one of our biggest allies, and they both seemed to be happy. Probably a good sign.
The second half of the article felt pretty weirdly forced; that's an issue with the middle east and the only reason it got mentioned in this article is because some random dude in the Seals not even directly affiliated with Trump compared something to the Japanese internment camps in WW2.
Do you think this will happen with Trump and Abe.

Seems like Abe had problems moving this forward with Obama.

Can you tell me what's in the Wikileaks link? CNN told me it's illegal for me to read them.
Sure :weeb:. Podesta mailing with some guy that Obama and Biden are ignoring Abe.
Japan having a stronger presence in Asia is only good for the US with China's Shenanigans going on.

Apparently Shinzo Abe really, really likes Maglevs, but was being ignored by the Obama administration.
Which I find strange, because this includes "Amtrak Joe" Biden.
I hope this is the first step on Trump's journey to Make Anime Great Again.

My mind is telling me this is a clearly shopped photo but no, this is REALLY happening.

He will make our Waifus real and make Japan pay for them.

learning through osmosis
This is somewhat reassuring. Keeping a streak of this while cleaning the gunk out his possible cabinet, along with possibly replacing characters such as Pence, Bannon, and Bolton, could make improvements to help weigh out the impression he made in the election. Healthy criticism and similar should still be kept.
He will make our Waifus real and make Japan pay for them.
I don't think he'll have to make Japan do that, I think they want to.
This isn't normal.

Please let this happen. We seriously need to have our country's infrastructure relating to trains and public transport to have a major boost. Imagine having an Amtrak system based on bullet trains, and with some government subsidies to ticket costs. hnggg.

If Chicago's shitty Metras and L's get replaced by bullet trains, that'll already be enough for me to deem Trump as a better president than Obama.

Wouldn't having bullet trains involve redoing the infrastructure?
Wouldn't having bullet trains involve redoing the infrastructure?
Depends on how you do it, though I thought the point of bullet trains was specifically for long distance travel where they capitalize on going extremely fast for extended periods of time, which would be less useful in a metro that frequently stops, minimizing the benefit of having a top speed of 200 mp/h.
replacing metros would also require shutting down those metros for the duration of the project (So, probably years), I don't see it happening for in-city travel tbh. Getting trains that run in large loops around the U.S. however, would be pretty great, it would cut down somewhat on the need for air travel too, depending on how quickly you need to be getting places.
Like, assuming an average speed of 150 mp/h going from LA to DC would be around 18 hours. Those annoying relatives you hate that live 5 states away? Now they can visit whenever they want!

She is probably smarter than Trump himself at this point. You should be thankful she is there.

Ivanka 2020?
I'm hearing the Japanese are actually pretty pissed that he let Ivanka and her husband sit in during the meeting.

How do you fuck that up? Holy balls trump....
I've heard that Abe's a bit of a wanker but I don't really know how or why.
Anyone know how he is as a politician?
How do you fuck that up? Holy balls trump....
To be fair to Trump he's new to this and Shinzo himself said he was happy.
Meeting with Japan's prime minister and leaving a good impression as opposed to fucking up is probably a good thing
The real question will be whether Trump takes to Twitter and start insulting the guy 4 days later like he usually does.
this is honestly MONUMENTAL in terms of how he handles his interactions with foreign powers
i mean, the Japanese have a wholly different culture when it comes to meetings and the likes, quite a few major deals have been shot down by japanese businessmen purely because foreigners don't cater to their style of business etiquette, so trump managing to do so well with this meeting is VERY surprising and exciting imho
Being a businessman himself, Trump is probably aware of a lot of foreign etiquette which probably includes the Japanese.
Right, and the fact he didn't botch it brings to doubt a lot of the whole "BUT HE'S A SHIT BUSINESSMAN" argument. Doesn't invalidate them, but seriously invigorates hope
