• How do YOU reformat?
    5 replies, posted
I'm upgrading to a full copy of Windows 7 tomorrow, and I'm backing everything up as I type this. I was just wondering if there's some organised and neat way of backing up and re-installing stuff, in case I forget something etc Basically I just want some instructions that I can loosely follow. I remember someone posting a while back about something like this, but I couldn't find it. Also I do know how to reformat [done it a couple times before], I'm not looking for help, just tips. So post the way you reformat.
Pop in DVD. Follow instructions. Format Partition. Install. Pretty much the gist of it.
Pop in CD Restart computer Last three steps above post said.
Sigh. I was looking for something more along the lines of what order you back stuff up [music/games etc] and how you'd re-install them. But go ahead and be xd funny and random.
These days I tar up my root filesystem, put it on an external drive. And with a live cd, format my disk with whatever filesystem I want, then untar my root filesystem back onto the drive.

[editline]08:05AM[/editline] I keep my music on a separate drive that I never format. It's more of a storage HDD since I also keep all my movies and shows on it. And I reinstall my games like normal. Pop in the DVD. Follow instructions. Done.
