My friend has finally wanted to get into thw pc gaming scene, though I think he just wants to upgrade his pc to see if he likes it. Here is the specs I know so far, Dell model E521 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ RAM: 3 gigs OS: Windows 7 64 bit His budget is just what yall think is sufficient. I cna post more details if needed.
Budget? Monitor Resolution? Games he wants to play? [editline]21st February 2011[/editline] Well you have to give a budget because in my opinion the best bet would be to save up for a new computer.
Probably willing to save to 500$. He just wants to play source games nicely and rts. His resolution is 1280/?? (i forget off the top my head.)
720? He probably can't change his mobo, as his Windows version is OEM, unless you've bought it yourself. PSU/CPU/GPU should make it run most games.

(i forget off the top my head.)[/QUOTE] Tell him to save up for $575ish so he can get a new PC and Windows 7 [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline] Wait do you have a Windows 7 disk? Because if you do $500 is enough for a good build.
An AM3 CPU may/may not work in the mobo, it's worth to dig into. That way he could get a Phenom II X4 955, a GTX 560, and a decent PSU.
If he were to get a 500$ build, could someone compile a list of parts minus keyboard, mouse, monitor, and OS. If he just wanted to upgrade the GPU and maybe the PSU, what should he get just in case?
