So I got put on Zoloft by my doc because my dad brought up me being depressed and I failed the survey so now i'm taking it and I want to know if I smoke will it react at all or just make me have a weird high? And NO. I'm not going to crush them up and snort them. I know someone will say that (Just by saying that someone will)
Anti-Depressants aren't a get fucked up kind of thing. They fucking blow, don't take them.
Well a side-effect of Zoloft is anxiety. So you may put yourself over the edge if you smoke. Other than that, I just researched it and there shouldn't be any life-threatening effects from the combination. I could be wrong! The the only way to find out is to try it. Your choice.
Don't take them.
Don't take them.
I want to though, I hate feeling like this. Why shouldn't I?
I think you are, It's prescribed for OCD, Panic Attacks & Depression :rolleye:
Panic attacks are different than anxiety. And zoloft can cause anxiety.
Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
The more you know.
So your saying something made to help eliminate Anxiety actually gives you Anxiety? [editline]08:20PM[/editline] But seriously I hate feeling like this. Why shouldn't I take them?
My girlfriend is on Zoloft for anxiety and she says weed alleviates her anxiety TONS better than her meds, but she can't just tell her parents she's going to smoke instead of take prescribed medicine. Though her mum seems fine with me smoking (and I'm assuming she thinks her daughter does too). Her mum watches her take the meds in the morning at breakfast though so that's still out of the question.
If you are depressed then take them. See if they help. If they do, great, it's a lot better than being depressed. As far as mixing it with weed, here is a thread about it. http://www.steadyhealth.com/marijuana_reacts_with_Zoloft_t55381.html Read part of it and some people say it's bad and some say it is fine. Probably depends on the individual. This is more something for you to experiment with and see if it helps.
Never mix welbutrin with alcohol, intensifys the effect majorly.
Zoloft and other such antidepressants have something like a 4% success rate and tend to cause unpredictable side effects (including more depression). Personally, I would suggest you stop taking it and try a more natural approach. Like eating more seafood.
Seafood? I love seafood. I'm not sure what effect that would impose on depression though. Source?
Cmon, I think rate is more than 4%.... if it would be so small then I think they would design new anti-depressants. One bad side of anti-depressants is withdrawal. Like hellish one?
Anti depressants tend to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin (SSRI). If you stop taking them your body has to adjust to less serotonin. From what I hear, this makes it hard to focus and severe withdrawal can send periodic electric shocks through your brain. It sounds nasty as hell.
take prozac, that's what i take made me a lot happier, I'm a changed person now, completely different, and for the better although i don' know if it's a good idea to smoke while taking them, i haven't smoked in over a year, so i wouldn't really know but do not drink! i ended up having fucked up dreams about me killing my family, so.....
Guys meds fuck pepole up. Take a tab of LSD, a ffwe grams of shrroms, and figure the problems out. Anti deps and the other shit they prescribe is fucking just not worth it. You end up being a person only based on when you are on the meds, without them you become like a wreck. I had clinical depression and anxiety for like 3 years, then I smoked pot and figured all my problems out and I am no longer with those issues. I am really high btw so I dunno if I ammaking sesnse.
I have a feeling depression is just a state of mind you can pull yourself out of. When your a teenager of course your feelings and emotions are all over the place, your body is changing very fast. Whenever I felt "depressed", I knew it was up to me to get out of that state of mind. All I did was straighten out my posture, talked louder, and dealt with issues that were at hand like a responsible adult would do. I'm not gonna give you that "With time it will go away" bullshit. No. It's up to you not to fall into that hole. Just how you can take an Ecstasy pill which releases serotonin (happy juice) in your brain, and still have a bad trip. It's all about state of mind. :eng101:
easier said than done we only have a rough idea of how the brain works I don't think we'll ever make a working "get over it" pill, because depression isn't as simple as an imbalance of neurotransmitters.

I was on Zoloft and I smoked a bunch of weed. You are at high risk of developing a serotonin toxicity though. Just don't take Zoloft, it fucking sucks. It made me fat.
I should've mentioned this, It might not matter but they are generic = Equivalent of Zoloft
I should've mentioned this, It might not matter but they are generic = Equivalent of Zoloft
IIRC there isn't a generic equivalent of Zoloft in the US as there are patents on it, are you in Canada? That's the reason for one of the insurance issues my girlfriend was having, Aetna told them to try the generic but there is no generic for Zoloft in the US. However, I may have Zoloft mixed up with another anti-depressant they had her on. EDIT: The U.S. patent for Zoloft expired in 2006,[22] and sertraline is now available in generic form. - Wikipedia I mixed something up in my head. It was actually Abilify I was talking about. We're going to talk to her doctor/parents to get her off of all that BS soon.
What are you trying to say?
Absolutely nothing, my friend, I just thought there was no generic form of Zoloft. Carry on.
Oh lol :3
Dopamine is happy juice :P.
This man is correct. Serotonin is the chemical released by most psychadelics however I believe weed and cocaine (and probably a few others) release dopamine which is more likely to provide a mood lift.
This man is correct. Serotonin is the chemical released by most psychadelics however I believe weed and cocaine (and probably a few others) release dopamine which is more likely to provide a mood lift.
I thought it was the psys working on serotonin receptors rather than releasing serotonin, since they are structurally similar (tryptamines).
Many drugs mess with serotonin, and many of those mess with dopamine also... There is difference between binding to serotonin receptors or releasing serotonin. Same thing with dopamine. For example: Mushrooms binds mainly to serotonin receptors, at high dose adrenaline like receptors, LSD binds to many receptors, serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline, and fuck-load more receptors, Cocaine releases serotonin, dopamine, and adrenaline, Amphetamine releases mainly dopamine and adrenaline, Methamphetamine releasing are similar to amphetamine plus binding to serotonin receptors, Ethanol-alcohol also messes with dopamine and serotonin, but don't know in which way. MDMA releasing is similar to Cocaine/Meth, just ratio of them is different, fuck-load of serotonin and dopamine, with serotonin being most released of all chemicals Also for information, serotonin binding is responsible for stimulation, is also responsible for addiction in some way, and a lot more stuff (sleeping, mood lift or multiplication and so on)
I seem to remember that MDMA is structurally similar to serotonin which is why an OD can cause serotonin syndrome unlike with LSD.
