I wonder if it would be possible to cheese it by reloading saves, or if they'll autodelete them.

I sure hope not, otherwise it'd defeat the purpose of it somewhat.
You can save although I don't understand why you would want to play a game for 12 hours nonstop without saving.
Called 'I Am the Night' because you'll spend nights playing through it.
I wish more games had cool names for various difficulty modes. People started using "Hardcore" and "Insane" more, but those are getting lame.
We need more stuff like this:

They can't be serious.
Permadeath is one of those elements the whole game has to be designed around, you can't just tack it on like this.

Says you.
I had a phase where I tried to play through every new game I purchased in one life, and if I died, beating the game felt pretty hollow.
Almost managed Space Marine. Almost.

A lot of those were backwards though. Like some games have the hardest difficulty be God/SuperSoldier/UltraKillBot9000 when you're the squishiest thing in the game. I get that they mean "It would take a god to complete" or something similar but it often seems like they're describing the character.
I really like Halo's descriptions for the different difficulties. Easier difficulties describe you as a god, and harder ones describe you as incredibly underpowered.
So if the game freezes, you're buggered?
I'm pretty excited for this.

I disagree. Most permadeath games are designed to be short and basic enough so you can replay over and over again. I enjoy those games, but they never give me an adrenaline rush. I know any progress I lose can be made up in a half hour. But when you take a 10+ hour narrative and combine it with permadeath, it is so much more intense. You get incredibly focused and determined to survive, knowing you can lose hours of progress. Especially when the game is designed originally with the expectation of players dying multiple times with checkpoints, as opposed to dying multiple times while restarting. It takes a lot of skill, and is incredibly satisfying when you do it.
I'd say beating the Witcher or Max Payne with permadeath is much more exciting and satisfying than something like the binding of isaac and other roguelikes.
When Arkham City came out I played and beat it on the highest difficulty, then immediately started a NG+. Once I had finished that I did it all over again on the next save slot. Unfortunately it's not the most challenging game, but this should fix that.
