The expansions always outsell the preprocessor though
World of Warfare
well played bbc, ( 3rd paragraph down )
I'm not surprised, since the main enemy aka TORtanic has sunk into deep shit.
Activision = shit company. Blizzard should have never have merged with them.
World of Warfare (WoW) had lost nearly 1.8 million players over the previous 12 months.
[s]Fox News[/s] BBC need to die, they obviously don't know what they talk about.
Called it.

they didnt moron - anyways this is very good news, usually this period (no patches inc till the next xpac) loses a lot of subscribers. the fact they've stopped it during this is a p great feat
Activision Blizzard, Inc., formerly Activision, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) is the American holding company for Activision and Blizzard Entertainment. The company is majority owned by French conglomerate Vivendi SA and was created through the merger of Activision and Vivendi Games, announced on December 2, 2007
It's right there in the first sentence, Blizzard and Activision never actually merged. You should read the hold thing, it even states they're still two separate companies and that Activision Blizzard is a holding company that has no influence on game publishing or development.

I know that, that doesn't change the fact that they technically merged.
um
Activision and Vivendi did, try reading again.

I've been saying this for so long, people just want to see the shit in everything.
Wonder if GW2 is going to change anything. Always liked their idea of not asking a subscription. Still not getting my hopes up though. Seems that the GW community and WoW community don't overlap as much as I expected.

It will probably be like every other MMO since WoW came out. That is it will do well and have a pretty large fanbase but it's probably not going to kill WoW.

Yeah, probably, but I would love to see some change in the MMO world. Not hating on WoW or anything, but it seems it pretty much has a monopoly on subscriptions.
Personally I think people are leaving because they keep releasing too much expansion packs.
ummm, people WANT those expansion packs... and didnt wrath then catacylsm after that set sale records? or maybe just completely outsold the previous expansion...
Cataclysm outselling Wrath doesn't change the fact that it was absolute shit.
your personal opinion of an expansion has nothing to do with the fact that people want the expansions
Wait Activision now own WoW?
no

GW2 has such a different style I don't really see it stealing subs from WoW.
I think GW2 is basically going to be made up of the people who want a good MMO but do not like WoW's style that every other MMO also uses.

It seems to use the same mechanics, but with differences in most of them. Your skills are governed by the weapons, which you can switch on the fly, in your hands, you don't have 30 or 50 items on your toolbars but the interchangable 8, class balance that even TOR hasn't matched yet, persistent and fairly good looking worlds, and no sub, focus on Story with plenty of end game content and no massive grind, and a pretty god damn awesome PvP mode that lasts weeks non stop
I have high hopes for GW2 and it's not just because I loved the first
WoW was a great MMO for the whole duration of Vanilla all the way to Cataclysm mid, but I think I've paid enough money for the game. Haven't been subscribed to it for quite some time now.
Also it's sort of popularized now, simplified..
focus on Story with plenty of end game content
Didn't ToR say this too only to have barely any end game content?
and no massive grind
Isn't grinding kind of what keeps people going in an MMORPG?

Not necessarily. You can make the questing/leveling process actually an enjoyable experience that engages the entire community rather than everybody doing "Pick 5 flowers" by themselves and competing for mobs. The original GW did a good job of that and GW2 during the beta had a much better questing experience as well.
After that, the massive focused PvP as well as dungeons and such could keep entertaining people past the story and leveling process.
Arenanet really seems to have it figured out in what people are wanting out of an MMO. I respect them for being one of the few developers actually trying to evolve the genre.
