So I have planned to build a new PC from scratch for a while no, but have always looked into specifics. Instead I am coming here requesting tips. Budget: Approx. $1,000 to $1,500 USD. Online or In-store: Can do both Current parts: + 5.1 Surround Sound system + Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme GPU + ATI Radeon HD 4650 GPU + 32" Sony Bravia HDTV w/ 2 component, 2 HDMI, 1 PC inputs (wall mounted) What I would prefer is some answers for these questions I have (Note: It is a gaming PC i plan to build): 1) What type of processor would be better; Intel or AMD? 2) Should I get the processor in a set w/ the motherboard or buy them separate? 3) My ATI cards are nice but I have issues w/ Catalyst Control Center (CCC) and my laptop has a nVidia card, I prefer nVidia but is it worth it? 4) Any other tips would much be appreciated. I plan to eventually post the parts I plan to buy based on the feedback from you guys. I would like to avoid making an overclock system and just have a smooth running PC with high level (not ultra or godly high) settings. Any help you guys provide [along with tips] is much appreciated. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] Note: I live in Illinois, USA.
Go 7.1 Surround, Wouldn't hurt top have it there in the future. I prefer AMD, It's all personal opinion, But thing about cooling when you make your decision.
Okay, I went about exploring stuff and now I am wondering: which is better for Gaming, AMD or Intel?
For budget builds, AMD, for you I would suggest a i5-2500K
Well, what I am shooting for is as follows: + Case + Motherboard + CPU + SSD (for Win7 and basics/bootup) (Approx. 40GB if that's what is rec.) + HDD (1TB+ possibly) (Games and saves) + Power Supply (What would you recommend?) + What disc drive should I use? Just a DVD or go all the way with Blu-Ray? + Anything else I may be missing (Will prolly go water cooling) [editline]9th May 2012[/editline]
For budget builds, AMD, for you I would suggest a i5-2500K
i5 w/ how many cores? 4 should be good right?
If you're not overclocking I very much doubt you need to spend money on water cooling. Just get a decent aftermarket air cooler. Also you may as well go for the i5 3570k, as it is slightly higher in performance and there is not much difference in price between that and the old Sandy Bridge 2500k. I'd also look at replacing your GPU. Probably something like a 7970 if you like your AMD cards. For an SSD get a 60GB Corsair Force GT or something like that, that way you can use it as a boot drive as well as have plenty of space for a few games and apps. Get a z77 motherboard, and most people will tell you to go for Asus or Gigabyte (although I've had a go with the new MSI and ASRock offerings and they are pretty good too.) For a PSU, I've got one of these http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w-psu-ocz-zx-series-zx850w-un-modular-92-eff-80-plus-gold-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx. If you don't already have RAM, go for G.Skill RipjawsX (8GB should do the trick) and the case is really up to you. Whether you're looking for a window to see all your new components, or you are more concerned about good airflow and how many fans you can fit in it.
I plan to replace my GPU at a later time when I get more funds (probably nVidia cards). As for all that help thanks, I will build a prototype setup and be back!
AMD-s new line is crappier than a piece of crap. Intel is the way to go. Low budget, i3, high budget, i5 or i7. I would go with the new nVidia cards, GTX670 seems to be pretty good and looks like it might fit your budget.
I must agree the GTX670 does look great, and fantastic pricing on them too. Ridiculously low power consumption.
Alright, that will be an excellent suggestion for the GPU. Also thnx for the CPU tips

So I'm looking up parts but now I'm a bit confused. I know most many motherboards list the speed of the card like 1800(OC)*. <- What does this signify? (Note: I'm using Newegg for part finding.)
Get a samsung spinpoint f3 1tb. its $80
Alright, that will fit better. Is a 2TB drive even worth it though?
Alright, that will fit better. Is a 2TBcookie drive even worth it though?
Never even heard of it.
Okay, wtf auto-correct on Droid. 2TB HDD
I doubt you'll need 2TB of space from the getgo, and you can always get another 1TB drive on top of the spinpoint in the future
Okay, wtf auto-correct on Droid. 2TB HDD
Its worth it if you dont get a deathstar or a crapgate.

Sounds good, but what about a graphics card? Are you reusing your 4650?
Yea, for now. I plan to later get a GTX670 once the funds come in and besides, it's not all bad. :D
Will be a pretty slick build once you get the funds for the 670. Have fun building it!
