• Man jailed for 3 years for stealing charity money meant for dream holiday for his terminally ill 11
She is 11 years-old and has a terminal condition called Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, which means her body ages eight times faster than normal. She's not expected to live past her teens and had a wish to swim with dolphins. A wonderful charity raised money for Ashanti Elliott-Smith to do just that - but her own father took the money and spent it on himself. Ashanti and her mum, Phoebe Smith, joined Phil and Holly on ITV This Morning to talk about what happened. The little girl suffers the same problems now as an 80 year-old woman and has no hair, arthritis and thin skin. She never complains and is always positive. The Sussex British Motorcycle Owners' Club heard about Ashanti and her wish to holiday in Florida and swim with dolphins, and they raised the £3,500 for her to go to Disney and to do just that. Phoebe was separated from Ashanti's father, Albi Elliott, and he made sure he was the communication link about the charity money, without Phoebe knowing. He would say Phoebe was poorly and unable to attend charity events and presentations. When she contacted the motorcycle club to see how things were going, they told her that the fundraising presentation for Ashanti had already taken place and the money given to her father, Albi a few months earlier. She and members of the motorcycle club went along to a police station to report what Albi had done. In June this year, Albi was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime. He'd spent the money on supermarket shopping trips and insurance.
https://uk.tv.yahoo.com/morning-her-dad-stole-charity-money-meant-her-113200626.html
Satan can retire in peace, we've found a successor.
Satan can retire in peace, we've found a successor.
The fact that he spent it on food suggests he needed it. It's not like he went and bought a new car and flatscreen tv or anything. Grim yeah but would call it satan material.
Father and daughter, look at this scumbag [img_thumb]http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article3788985.ece/alternates/s2197/PAY-Albi-Elliott-with-his-daughter-Ashanti-Elliott-Smith.jpg[/img_thumb]
Phoebe had to explain to Ashanti that her father had squandered the charity money that should have sent her to Disneyland. She was obviously disappointed but Phoebe said she still loved her daddy because he was her daddy - no matter what he had done.
Goddamn that is heartbreaking. If there can be a Kickstarter to fund some dude's potato salad, there had better be a Kickstarter to give this girl the best goddamn vacation in the universe.
Three years in jail for stealing £3500? Seems a tad bit excessive but oh well. Devils advocate here but it'd be nice to know how badly he needed it so that we could make a more accurate judgement of his character. I can't imagine taking care of that girl with all her medical problems is in any way cheap.
Goddamn that is heartbreaking. If there can be a Kickstarter to fund some dude's potato salad, there had better be a Kickstarter to give this girl the best goddamn vacation in the universe.

There is a happy end to the story. A national newspaper heard about Albi's selfish act and they stepped in and paid for Ashanti's dream trip where she got to swim with dolphins - and loved it.
From the article.
What a fucking scumbag. And against your own daughter? Disgusting.
This is one of the reasons to wish that the Phantom Zone existed as a real punishment.
How could you steal from a face like this?
How could you steal from a face like this?
Cruelly and heartlessly, that's how.
In June this year, Albi was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime. He'd spent the money on supermarket shopping trips and insurance.
At least he didn't use it to buy a car or something.
At least he didn't use it to buy a car or something.
He still stole the money and spent it for his own purposes, so it doesn't matter what he bought with it. I guarantee you people would be just as outraged, if he bought something else.
How could you steal from a face like this?
You're kinda a dick.

Genetic disorders are fascinating, as is the whole genetics field.
The fact that he spent it on food suggests he needed it. It's not like he went and bought a new car and flatscreen tv or anything. Grim yeah but would call it satan material.
In my opinion, what he spent it on and how much he took is irrelevant. This is fraud, since those funds did not belong to him and were given for another purpose. The part that annoys me is the motorcycle group giving the funds to the dad, without speaking to the mom OR daughter first. I can't see any reasonable way that plays out: "We heard about your daughter, we raised money, here it is have a nice day"? At the very least when I presented the money I'd want all three of them there, or I'd go to their home, whichever is most convenient for them. Don't trust anyone with thousands of dollars, simple as that.
