Then you switch the wires as a prank and the steering becomes inverted.
Currently wondering about how easy it would be to hook it up the the control board that's in every RC car.
Knight rider bitches :v:
Someone goes into the computer and changes the sensitivity, you turn the wheel a fraction to the left and the tires go full left.
Sounds like a neat idea.
I don't think I would like not being able to feel any feedback through the steering wheel. It would probably also affect the way the wheel centers itself when you let go after cornering. Still, I would be interested to try out the system.

I'm already paranoid enough about mechanical power-steering.
This would make me go full-out tin-hat mode.
no assisted mechanical steering is funnest steering
no assisted mechanical steering is funnest steering
Except when parallel parking.
But that's just exercise for your arms :v:
parallel park at 30mph and use momentum to your advantage
what could go wrong
ok, so does that mean I can plug a controller in a drive a car with it?
Terrorists mass hack car steering and veer every car in america to a sharp left.

Because this happens rite

In other news, NASCAR has become the country's favorite sport number 1

I think right would be more effective, why hit cars when they can hit buildings :P
fuck better not give them any ideas

Idk, have you ever played driving games on the PC with a decent steering wheel? The feedback it can simulate is pretty damn good most of the time and the centering is dead on.

It seems it'll have some sort of feedback system, at least it's what this quote seems to imply:
In addition it suggested that the development would "insulate" motorists from disturbances caused by unnecessary feedback.
"For example, even on a road surface with minor ridges or furrows, the driver no longer has to grip the steering wheel tightly and make detailed adjustments, so traveling on the intended path becomes easier," it said in a statement.
What about the feedback on arcade machines like Daytona?
God damn my arm muscles would go sore after playing :v:
No damnit Nissan you suck!
Reason why 240SX are still being used in tracks today! The feel is nothing like any other modern electronic BS. Power steering directly connected to the steering wheel would be the best.
Next thing you know we're gonna have some BS electronic throttle/accelerator/brake/clutch.....

Already is for the throttle (see Toyota lolnobrakes incident), and newer BMW's have a valve on the hydraulic clutch line so you can't rapidly press or let go of the clutch.
It's already happening right under our noses.

Or what if we just have an electric engine with electronic components connected to it and to the drive train, like what we're looking at in the future, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

If you're a car enthusiast then yeah nothing's better than the feeling of the road through the wheel, but for the average person driving to work and home every day it's not a bad idea.
Most cars already have electronic power steering which means the manufacturers set how heavy it is. A lot of them are speed sensitive so it becomes heaver the faster you go, meaning it's super light to park and heaver on motorways. But most enthusiasts don't like it because of the lack of feedback.
It's also very expensive to replace.
What if your wheel gets stuck? You can't steer then, can you?
I thought about it a little after hearing that cars have an electronic gas pedal (2002 chrysler voyager for example)
You can't use your strength to get out of a hole or some shit like that then, can you?
fyi if you want to try driving without power steering, put your car on the top of a hill, put it in neutral and kill the engine, and well, steer
fyi if you want to try driving without power steering, put your car on the top of a hill, put it in neutral and kill the engine, and well, steer
I'm always confused as to how power steering works, I've heard people drive without power steering but I'm assuming that's only on really small cars, because my current vehicle has a power steering fluid leak and when that shit runs dry I can't turn at all.

In my Beetle I don't feel much difference
Wonder why :v:
For non car-people:
[sp]The old Beetle like mine has the engine mounted in the back so the front of the car is very light and with little weight over the front wheels, it'll still be easy to steer even without power steering even when stationary. It is harder without power steering but not as hard as other cars with the engine mounted in the front[/sp]
In my Beetle I don't feel much difference

Well shit, I have a huge hunk of a diesel engine up front.
And with a little fiddling I can disable the power steering.
Gets FUCKING heavy to turn at a standstill or barely moving, but fine otherwise.
Terrorists mass hack car steering and veer every car in america to a sharp left.
And then Apple Maps or whatever its called gets all the blame.

A car with faulty power steering is harder to drive than a car without it because of all the stuff on the steering rack making it harder to turn, it's only so you can drive it to a mechanics (I've heard that's why anyway). My first car didn't have power steering and it was very easy to drive, it was just parking which was a pain.
