• Reading Rainbow Ending After 26 Years
Reading Rainbow comes to the end of its 26-year run on Friday; it has won more than two-dozen Emmys, and is the third longest-running children's show in PBS history — outlasted only by Sesame Street and Mister Rogers. The show, which started in 1983, was hosted by actor LeVar Burton. (If you don't know Burton from Reading Rainbow, he's also famous for his role as Kunta Kinte in Roots, or as the chrome-visored Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation.) Each episode of Reading Rainbow had the same basic elements: There was a featured children's book that inspired an adventure with Burton. Then, at the end of every show, kids gave their own book reviews, always prefaced by Burton's trademark line: "But you don't have to take my word for it ..."
I actually shed a tear. That sucks, I suggest everyone reading this go watch an episode or two. They're hilarious when you're older.
the way he said, "But you don't have to take my word for it" was so beautiful.
Sucks man, used to watch it all the time.
I will never look at a butterfly the same after watching this show.
Mister Rogers is still better.

Rainbows end, find the pot of gold.
This thread requires more gaybows.
I woke up with the theme in my head this morning. Or perhaps yesterday morning. Either way, it's an odd coincidence.
Both this and Mr Rogers were my childhood.
Soon I will forget that it has ended too.
Reading Rainbow inspired me to love books.. Goodbye, butterfly in the sky. :frown:

Reading Rainbow was my life when I was a kid, please don't go! :saddowns:
:suicide:
Fuuuuuck, another piece of my childhood died.
i remember this show... back on my 2nd elementary school that I gone to during my 2nd/3rd grade.
When I was a kid, I always thought that if they got stuck on a word while flying up in the beginning, they would crash down and die.
Take a look in a book, because it's no longer on TV.
Damn, I can still remember the words to the theme song.
In this thread, agreements should be rated "optimistic", and disagreements should be rated "bad read". Now rate me "bad read". You know you will.
I remember the theme-song was take a book or something like that and a few other things.
my parents where always like hurhur reading rainbow is on, i'd always respond fuck the rainbow
