The country becomes the first in Latin America to block the site on copyright grounds following a court order obtained by the leading record labels. Eleven ISPs are now forced to block 256 IP addresses associated with the Pirate Bay and 12 domains and it looks like some have already complied, Accesso Directo (link in Spanish) reports. As mentioned, the whole thing started from a group of representatives of the music industry, more specifically Cámara Argentina de Productores de Fonogramas (CAPIF). The request said that something needed to be done about the amounts of copyright infringement happening over on the torrent site. There is still hope for Pirate Bay users in Argentina since the injunction is preliminary, while the full trial could still turn things around, although chances are pretty slim. The Pirate Bay is blocked in many countries, although people can easily overcome ISP-wide bans with VPN tools. Furthermore, there are even easier ways to access the site since there are plenty of mirror sites out there to help route traffic around the block, as well as The Pirate Browser. Internet users in Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and, now, Argentina, cannot access The Pirate Bay in the usual way.
Source. Yesterday i noticed that i couldn't access the site but i thought it was just temporarily down, today i find out about this bs on the news and had to go through the trouble of changing my bookmark to one of the hundreds of TPB proxy sites that are out there and now i can finally continue downloading my Linux distros again :downs:
Shortly after, the music industry group in question (CAPIF) hosted themselves a Pirate Bay mirror.
Lol, serves them well.

Pirate bay is just the puppet in the midst of better torrent and direct downloading websites run by more organised communities, some of which can be financially motivated.
I hope there will be a good way past the block for when Stedolph Harpler blocks it in Canada
They must really hate linux/gnu there.
Where else would I download all my linux torrents?
I hope there will be a good way past the block for when Stedolph Harpler blocks it in Canada
Lol there's no way he'll be able to get that done
Shortly after, the music industry group in question themselves hosted a Pirate Bay mirror.
Also the ban on thepiratebay has been removed in the Netherlands for a while now
Lol there's no way he'll be able to get that done
After the introduction of Bill C-36, I wouldn't put anything pass PM. Harper.

Aren't the blocking usually just a DNS block? which is really easy go around?
No idea it was blocked here. I do not have any issues accessing the site.
I think you can even bypass the block by slapping it on Google translator. They really put effort in censoring the internet.
I think you can even bypass the block by slapping it on Google translator. They really put effort in censoring the internet.
I know you can the Danish block. At least you could back when I last used it.
And the block affects Portugal too, because they route their traffic through us. Sorry :v:
Aren't the blocking usually just a DNS block? which is really easy go around?
Surprisingly, CAPIF was smart enough to block TPB's IPs, so you can't access it directly. Proxybay/TOR/mirrors work fine, though. One thing to note is that this is a (very probably unconstitutional) kneejerk reaction from a goverment that's afraid of having to pay entities money, since the economy's already in a bad place. Ideally nerds would get off their chairs and protest it and it'd be gone in a week, since local media is most pirated via people selling burnt CDs in alleyways.
They must really hate linux/gnu there.
The what?
Internet users in Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and, now, Argentina, cannot access The Pirate Bay in the usual way.
It got unblocked a few months ago.
I can still acess pirate bay, lmao
You're all wrong
Malaysia
I can go to thepiratebay.se just fine.
Cant block thepiratebay
Can't schmay the Bay
It's only DNS blocked in Denmark so it's pretty easy to get around, or as mentioned just use one of the million proxy sites. Funny enough the hola unblocker extension i have for chrome, unblocked it with a swedish proxy even through it's supposed to be blocked in Sweden.
I can still acess pirate bay, lmao
If you use Google DNS or other DNS servers than your ISP's it shouldn't be blocked, because it's probably only DNS blocked.
Says I 'tis be wha' we shall do t' th' governments that ban th' Bay.
It's weird, even though the block happened a few days ago I could connect to it just fine this morning and now once again I can't access it. I seldom go there so this doesn't really affect me but I'm not sure if the pirate bay is actually blocked or if my internet is being shitty again, because I've had this sort of thing happen before the block.
Give the Pirate Bay the Falklands.
Internet users in Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and, now, Argentina, cannot access The Pirate Bay in the usual way.
To be honest, accessing Piratebay only became easier after they restricted access because then I learned about this miraculous site called Proxybay. [editline]6th July 2014[/editline] These days I just hum "Proxybay" to Indiana Jones' tune when I'm going to download something. It's kinda like an exciting treasure hunting adventure like in the movies. Feels less illegal, too.
Tor usage up 27%!
