UK astronaut Tim Peake has boarded the International Space Station, which will be his home for the next six months.
Mr Peake and fellow crew members, Russian Yuri Malenchenko and American Tim Kopra, floated through the hatch from their Soyuz space capsule to be greeted by the resident ISS astronauts.
The three new passengers arrived at the space platform following a six-hour journey after launch from Kazakhstan.

The former Army major is the first Briton to join the crew of the ISS and is employed by the European Space Agency.
Helen Sharman became the first British citizen to travel to space when she visited the Soviet space station Mir in 1991.
Other Britons who have flown into space have done so either as private individuals or by taking US citizenship.
We got Chris Hadfield over to cover the launch on BBC

Best part about him:

This is nice and all, but actually it's shameful.
The Empire should've solidified its position in the galaxy decades ago.

Just you wait, first the planet, then entire solar systems will fall under the queens name.
Long live the British Galactic Empire
Let's see how superior the Americans feel when we declare space a constitutional monarchy

well you can say you have control of the moon and space, but who's planted the most flags there :P

The french, because whatever you planted was bleached white.
But hey, in all seriousness I'll say that humanity has planted the most flags in space, as one.
the soyuz is about the smallest 3 person vehicle to get to orbit that you could launch

well the apollo flags were, but we've had enamel plaques on our spacecraft for decades, they're a bit more durable as far as bleaching
i thought you meant a British First supporter went to the ISS, oh my god
Man that's Peake.

Dump all your tea into space.
I'm so glad that we made a big deal of this on the news, and had special shows running for it. We could have let this just happen without a fanfare, instead we gave it a chance to actually inspire future generations to get into space and into human space flight with this incredibly exciting story. I hope it works, the British thoughts on space and getting there aside from companies on contracts are appalling.

One thing the government has dun gud lately is space stuff, a little over 5 years ago we had no astronauts, no space agency and didn't even contribute funding to the ISS. Now we've got a UK Space Agency, a dude in space, and we're working towards building a spaceport. Doesn't seem to be a partisan issue either, everyone pretty much agrees on it which is great - apparently because the space industry brings in £££ for the economy

While your distracted with all that garbage were just going to annex the Falklands and take their oil.
I had to actually google it, I'm surprised he is the UK's only official astronaut. I thought there were at least several.
There has to be a lot of space stations by now. I wonder how many people have access to private space stations.

I hope Australia and New Zealand come together to build a space agency as well where astronauts represent both countries

Plot twist: the British dump their own tea into every ocean and the whole planet becomes one giant cup of tea!

Wouldn't that make the tea salty as fuck? Disgusting.

We will also desalinate the ocean, in fact we will turn it into a giant paved, filtered swimming pool of warm tea. Ain't no other empire gonna give you that

Honestly I think this is the best thing we've done in a while to do with inspiring future generations. I've done a lot of work with Computer Science in education and getting kids involved. This blows it out of the water. I hope we follow through with it in the coming years, could be really great for some kids in the future. Makes me all happy :~)

Never one that has launched under the British flag basically. All the others have been trained and funded by other agencies (ie NASA).
Holy shit, Brian Cox, Dara O'Briain and Chris Hadfield all on the same program.

Quite the opposite!

:snip:
The twin suns of aegis prime never set on the British empire
If you Brits really wanted to be technical, you could have counted Major Hadfield (Canadian) as being the first subject of your Commonwealth/Empire boarding the ISS.
To the beyond, they vanquished
Thank fuck, in his first live interview from space he's assured us definitively that tea is still available on the ISS and tastes good
