I need some help with a really old computer that my mom's using
It kinda fucked up lately and she can't use it, so I'm gonna reformat it but I need some solutions on how to make it run as good as it can..
She thought about buying a new one but right now I'll have to deal with this one.
Programs she's using are MSN, ooVoo, Picasa, Firefox (on a pretty flash heavy site) and some other messaging programs..
I'm thinking about installing ubunbtu on it, though I never used it, what do you think?
Specs?
Pentium 4
Integrated graphics card
736mb ram, I think
What does she use the computer for?
If she's going to be browsing a flash heavy site, I'd stick with Windows. Flash is better on Windows than most other operating systems. Just reinstall the OS, it does miracles.

Alright, anything else I should do before reinstalling it? I'm guessing Win7 wouldn't be a good upgrade, right?

If she wants to have the computer be snappy as possible, stick with XP (Lets not start anything, I have 7 on most of my PCs). You already have the installation media (Likely), you'll need the driver disks or find a place to download them. Make sure to backup anything important too!

Alright, thanks bro :haw:
726mb of ram???
Annyways just reinstalling the thing will make it alot faster, besides that there isnt much you can do to make it faster besides overclocking.
Ubuntu is way harder to use then windows and not for the average person.
It is also not faster.
