The series will follow new character Gannicus (Dustin Clare) as the newest top gladiator at the the ludus. There's no such thing as too much of a good thing for Gannicus. His prowess in the arena masks a self destructive streak.
While the series may come off as fairly cheesy and exploitative with its ultraviolence and graphic sex/nudity it is actually fairly well written and acted. The series is filled with twists, turns, political machinations and betrayal. The thing that I really liked about the series was despite being the main character Spartacus wasn't instantly the best ever in the arena and actually had to earn his dues while his road to championship was rather long and hard.
In the run up to the series start Starz is reairing the series on Friday nights, the first season set is also available on DVD and Blu Ray.
Watched it. Loved it. Now I have something to watch. I wish I watched more of the original series though.
John Hannah is probably the most fun to watch.
For a TV series it was really damn brutal.
Excellently written, excellently acted on very nearly all sides.
Also I love the fact they speak sort of translated Latin, it's so bombastic and it's so entertaining when they swear and insult.
cock cock cock
never seen seen a show say cock so fucking much lol
i like it how low the morals are in this series
in the first season, when some man died mistakenly, the people responsible are like "oh.. well! lets do something fun to forgot him!" they phrased it different but it was hilarious nevertheless :v:

"Cock rages on! Cock rages on! Cock rages on!"
Gannicus, you so silly.
It looks like they improved the sfx.
So is this some sort of prequel to the events of the first series?

Yes it shows how things were and became before Spartacus arrives.
By Jupiter's cock!
I heard that this was really only being made because Andy Whitfield is currently fighting cancer and couldn't come back to the show.
no shit. he's doing well though.
the pilots usually have a disproportionate amount of sex in them, the episodes later will most likely have max 2 sex scenes per episode. happened in spartacus anyways.

Way before Spartacus arrives. Several years. Doctore, isn't. Crixus is still just a slave. Everybody's at the start.
Also, just so everybody knows; a guy's dick was pretty prominent in Roman society, as a sign of masculinity. So saying it wasn't really an offensive/sexual word like it is now, it's more like saying "oh god" or "god dammit".
Is this show considered the second season or another show?
Is this show considered the second season or another show?
It's considered a miniseries to bridge the gap between 1 and 2.
Also, a bit of sad news: due to Andy Whitfield's cancer, he has been replaced for season 2. Shame, I loved his portrayal of Spartacus.
I agree he was awesome. I'm only halfway through the season though so I imagine he will be even more awesome in the second half.
Didn't they make this because the guy that plays Spartacus has cancer?
A little. It was intended for there to be an episode or two in order to fill in the back story, but they decided to make a full blown miniseries with Whitfield's cancer resurgence.
So do I need to watch the original to understand this?
Blood and Sand was sweet, can't wait.

Not really. You could wait and watch this whole season and then continue with the original. It'd fit good I think
I'll be so disappointed if they recast anyone other than Andy as Spartacus in season 2.
they already did its some guy named Liam McIntyre

Damn, too bad he did not recover yet. Hopefully this new guy will be good.
New episode tonight!
bumping this shit because it's over now and the finale was super badass.
Each episode was like a mini-300 film.
Yeah really awesome finale! Same class as the finale in BAS.
Woah, looks like Gladiator but 10x brutal.
