I just purchaced a brand new $50 Microsoft Comfort Mouse 4500 and for some reason when I plug it in to my laptop it does not recognise it whenit is plugged it in to any USB port. I tried my new Flash drive as well and that works fine on all ports. To confirm it is a issue with my laptop I pluged in a different mouse and that didn't work either although the new mouse works fine when plugged into a different computer.
My OS is windows 7
My laptop is a 2 year old Sony Vaio VGN-CS13G.

Do you have USB drivers installed? Sometimes a computer won't come with USb drivers. A flash drive works because it installs the drivers temporarily, but then uninstalls them after removing. Look around the interwebz for some USB drivers.
I just checked the Sony support site and did not find any, anyway it was working fine yesterday.
Oh and the Mouse is getting power since all the lights are on
