...."I could access pornography in about three seconds, four at the most," explained Geir Johann Geirsson, 19, his laptop open on the classroom desk at Borgarn high school in a Reykjavik suburb. "If you can access the internet you can access porn, no matter how old you are."...
...Guðrún Jónsdóttir, a spokeswoman for Stigamot, a centre that helps victims of sexual violence, said: "It would make my life so much easier not to fight porn but I have to. Why should we allow unfettered misogyny, images of rape? The argument is that we need to ban porn because it hurts our children, and that is true, but it also needs to be stopped because it is hate speech and violence against women and affects people's relationships."...
...she had seen a marked shift in the abuse of children as a result of greater access to increasingly hardcore pornography.
She cited an example of a child as young as six being forced to watch and copy pornography by an older child. "Porn is used like a manual," she said. "We see a lot of these cases."...
Campaigners were not relying on any one minister, she said, adding: "We will not rely on one man to make this happen. We will not rely on one man. We will rely on the power of women."

Well no shit, you obviously searched for it or typed in an already known URL, dummy.

What the fuck does this even mean?
Is It just me does it seem like that other asshats have tried shit like this before?
Isn't it extremely hard to "ban pornography as a whole"?
Seems like those efforts of making an uncrackable game.
Better check your privilages, guys
What the fuck does this even mean?
you can't ban anything on the internet
before everyone shits on feminism, the article doesn't even mention it once. talk about sensationalist headlines.
Yeah, let's all be prudes.
Better yet, stop reproducing completely. Because you know, a child could be watching. You never know.
Iceland banned strip clubs in 2010 and was described as "world's most feminist country" by the guardian. This is what happens when the ridiculous sexist rhetoric of radical feminists isn't countered.

Yeah but you can censor it locally, then again there's loads of stuff to get around filters

Explains why there were so many Icelandic tourists on that shitty strip bar I was in during a wild night out.
The argument is that we need to ban porn because it hurts our children, and that is true.
Porn doesen't hurt children. The only type of porn that is hurting children is Child porn, and that is already illegal.
but it also needs to be stopped because it is hate speech and violence against women and affects people's relationships."...
So porn is hate speech and violence against women. uhhh what?
Honestly if porn would ever be banned in Iceland. How would they do it? just blocking the most well known porn sites? We saw how good that one worked in the UK with thepiratebay.
Maybe instead of banning the porn, look after your fucking children
There is a such thing as sex positive feminism...
Maybe not every feminist agrees with these feminists. -.-'

Then why the hell aren't they busy calling them out on their BS?
If a fringe group was busy dragging a cause I worked hard for through the mud, That would be my first AND top priority.
Why should we allow unfettered misogyny, images of rape?
No one allows this, rape is illegal and the porn stars does it out of free will and get payed for it. Damn, stop pulling shit out of your asses.

Exactly this will happen. Just on icelandic.
Fuck fuck fuckity shit fucks
everybody just needs to sit the frock back and stop trying to ban everything I swear
Distributing porn has been illegal in Iceland from as far back as 1869
This is interesting
[editline]4th June 2013[/editline]
damn those 19th century feminists
Why should we allow unfettered misogyny, images of rape?
hahaha
oh wow
...she had seen a marked shift in the abuse of children as a result of greater access to increasingly hardcore pornography.
I thought there were statistics that show the exact opposite? That whenever you make any kind of pornography more accessible, all kinds of sex crimes decrease.
What the fuck does this even mean?
I think they mean it's used to groom children, even by other older children who watch it and want to do the same... Not that the example has any relevance to what she's saying, and it's also a pretty bad argument but that's what they mean. Let's ban porn because it can be used in bad ways and because there are examples of that happening.
before everyone shits on feminism, the article doesn't even mention it once. talk about sensationalist headlines.
The article talks about "gender equality activists", which for all intents and purposes are feminists.
What the fuck does this even mean?
I think she's trying to say that all porn is horrible and violent (which it is... only in her opinion), and that children mimic everything they see (you know, the violent games cause violent kids argument?).
The article talks about "gender equality activists", which for all intents and purposes are feminists.
It seems like they only really looked at a secondary school gender equality class and a women's shelter. Even the class doesn't seem to be for an all out ban
Even in the classroom in Reykjavik views on the proposed measures were varied. "It's silly, impossible to execute," argued one student. "The only countries that censor the internet are those like North Korea and China; do we want to be like them?" asked another
What about gay porn, is that still degrading to women?
Then why the hell aren't they busy calling them out on their BS?

And how do you know that they aren't? Because the news media would be reporting it if they were?

We *do* call them out on their BS.
It's basically the giant difference between Radical Feminism and Liberal Feminism, but people like to lump everyone together into one big group.
What about gay porn, is that still degrading to women?
think of the children, maybe they'll become gay and spread aids!!!!!
