Ok so the announcement of Portal 2 got me thinking i need a new rig. So first thing is to decide what socket to build it around. My budget is currently $600.00 and i get $500.00 every 2 weeks from my job. BTW i canceled the order of my processor i was gonna upgrade for my old system. Thanks guys. PS: I'm aiming for the fastest build/kick ass gaming computer ever :D
What can you get from the old computer (Hard Drives, Graphics cards if they are new, CD drive)
I have a 500gb wd caviar black, a dvd RW drive that i can keep. And id like to stay away from the ddr2 memory and go with the latest and greatest parts.
Do you prefer AMD or Intel? Because You can get either the i5 or the best AMD Processor available. Oh wait, you need a GPU too..... Hmm, let me think for a bit. And a case an PSU? Hmmm
PS: I'm aiming for the fastest build/kick ass gaming computer ever :D
For $600?:lol::lol: You would be lucky to get an i7 with a motherboard for that price. For $600 (then +$500, entirely? What you got no expenses??) you're better off going for an AMD, Phenom II X4, then maybe a HD4 series card. What you'll lack on is DX11 and its benefits. But you can upgrade when DX11 goes into actual production. For the rest, see what you can scavenge. Media devices like CD, HDD, DVD. Monitors and HIDs, like keyboard mouse. The rest might have to be abandoned especially if you just want a mainstream computer with new CPU architectures for $600.
I would totally spend the extra $40 and get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674 Not the best by far, though pretty darned good.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153 this case has better airflow

I prefer intel and i already have a full atx case and a water cooling unit. All together i was looking at spending 2k-3k. This is what i was thinking for a processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115224
