The time for loading maps is still very long ?
Yeah it's ridiculous.

Isn't so bad when it's run from an SSD. Sure, it still takes longer than other games run from an SSD but it's ... acceptable.
I run it from an SSD and its still rediclous
And NS2 has probably some of the worst interface design I've seen, specially the commander interface, I mean fuck
I just timed it. Takes me 22.5 seconds from the moment I press "Join" to I'm in game and able to play.
And to add: I have every setting maxed out.
Takes me about 10 minutes sadly.
Do you optimise whatever it wants on first load after a new patch?
That takes about 2-5 mins for me.
After that, loading a level takes 30 seconds max.
Loading times are forever, but the game runs 100x smoother than it did in the past.

Whats so bad about it? It pretty much is the same as starcraft.
that's a funny way to spell "co_faceoff"
Yeah, I'm not getting any of the bad loading times you guys are getting. I optimize after every patch and loading takes about 30-45 seconds afterward. Not running off an SSD either.
It might be optimization that makes the difference. It might not be. That sounds like an interesting problem, though, the 10 minute loading time. Have you tried reinstalling or posting on the official forums to get to the developers?

Having to hit extremely vague blurred greyed out icons for everything, unless you learn the hotkeys
Oh and having to react to notices that go away after 3 seconds, forcing you to stop in the middle of whatever you were doing

I can command entirely with it, responding to every notification/medkit request, voice chat and chat, but you waste MASSIVE amounts of time trying to serve the notifications before they go away, and before I learned all the hotkeys, navigating the retarded menu
I haven't really played this too much despite getting it a year ago. I played Tremulous (a freeware clone of the first NS) a ton though back in the day
I guess something about the enviornments and level design put me off and the setting not doing much for me. I can tell there is a fun game underneath if I could just get into it though.
I like tremulous a lot particularly because the level design was so much more organic and interesting a lot of the time. Every level of NS2 on the other hand feels like the same map, as they are all just different arrangements of rooms connected by corridors and as such it feels so same-y.
Every time I get motivated to play this, by time its fucking loaded im demotivated. They really need to fix the loading times, they are just awful.

You can hit space to jump to the next request, but yea, I guess i just got used to it.
I stopped playing around the time all the streamers started talking about it and the huge influx of people joined. I'm not even that against new people playing, but you could not join a team that would communicate together unless you were playing with people since the early days of beta.
Not to mention the dev's would completely overhaul entire maps just for competitive play. Everything was balanced for competitive play. That wouldn't be so bad if you weren't trying to play with 18-20+ players, especially on the larger maps.
I really want to get back into it but I'm so out of the loop now. It's a shame because it's a really fun game with the right team.

The game still runs like shit though. I got maybe 3 extra frames a second by overclocking my cpu from 3.0ghz to 3.8ghz. Engine is a nightmare for performance, even on low settings.
IIRC they purely balance everything for their competitive shit, which is why stuff like Fades can curbstomp everyone on public servers with nothing stopping them (unless you manage to find 3 guys with dead accurate aim to go with)
