Budget: 2500 clams Display: 1080p 50'' Plasma screen Sound:5.1 Requirements: Must be moderately quiet Must have an 100+ gig SSD w/ good read and write Must have 1TB Caviar Black Windows 7 Home Premium Air cooling Good audio card Bluetooth keyboard and mouse + Bluetooth headset PSU headroom for further upgrades Preferences: Intel p55/x58 5000 series ATI High-end Motherboard (Was looking at Maximus III for p55) HAF 932 case 2 disk drives Location: Ohio, USA Anyways... This PC will be used for a variety of games all the way from Doom (original) to ME2 when it comes out. I am willing to purchase a system from any website that I can get a BBB or other certification for. If you have suggestions that don't fit the requirements or preferences, but you have a GOOD reason for them, please share them. Please make recommendations direct to the OP, I'll do the research myself if two systems look close.
fucking hell nice
A good SSD at over 100GB is roughly 500-600$ and pretty much a waste of money right now. You might aswell just get a VelociRaptor for half the price and double the capacity.

no sweat

All in all, SSD drives aren't worth it unless you've got a laptop that you want to make sure doesn't suddenly die on you. You'll be better off doing a raid0 with 4 drives. A complete overkill would be 8 drives in raid0+1 http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2009-3.5-desktop-hard-drive-charts/h2benchw-3.12-Avg-Read-Throughput,1010.html A decent SSD drive does 200 MB/s, whereas that test shows you a decent HDD does 110MB/s for 1/10th of the price.
If you would like to show me a raid array that gets comperable performance for the price I would be quite interested, no sarcasm intended.
Try two raptors in RAID 0, then add an extra drive for storage, files that don't need fast access.
50" 1080p for a computer isn't good unless it's primarily for watching videos. Won't be as clear as a regular desktop monitor.
50" 1080p for a computer isn't good unless it's primarily for watching videos. Won't be as clear as a regular desktop monitor.
... What I have is a 1080p 50" plasma TV, I need a computer for a 1080p 50" plasma tv

The hard drives on the link I posted before are all around $85 4*85=340, so that's $340 obviously, and a decent SSD is around $100 more than that, with a lot less capacity, and 100MB/s off the average read speed. Say you'd get 6x1TB for a raid0+1, then it'd do around 200MB/s for the price of a really good, decent sized SSD drive, and because it's raid0+1, half the drives will be used for automatic backup, so in case it all goes boom, you can just smack in a new drive, and it'll automatically copy everything over, as if nothing ever happened. Plus you'd get 3TB of space, which should be more than enough for any person's needs.

I just noticed a problem in your requirements. The HAF case is not quiet, not the slightest. It has a low-frequency sound I'll give it that, but it's still loud. A friend of mine has the NZXT HU001, which is ridiculously quiet. At first we though it was broken. http://www.nzxt.com/products/hu001/ It's a rather cheap case for a $2.5k build, and I've read you can hardly fit a 5870 in it, so let's not pick that, let's not even consider it. Anyway, I've checked, and for that sort of money we'd be able to smack in 2xSSD and 2xHDD for insane load speeds.
I took a look at the Hu001 as well as the Whisper, And I am worried that the cooling might be sub-par for the system I have in mind... Anyone else have a suggestions?
I've just noticed something horrible. You can't use a plasma screen for a computer. It'll completely destroy it. Well not, completely, but it'll burn-in on the screen. Basically the pixels will get stuck, and unable to change colour.
plasmas are shit monitors
plasmas are shit monitors
The only reason they shouldn't be considered PC screens is because they're much, much, much more sensitive to burn-in than LCD screens are. The image quality is far superior on a plasma screen.
hell you have a 2.5k budget, you can easily get a damn nice monitor and have tons left over
I have been told that the burn in issue isn't that much of a problem for the television we have... Ill check with my dad... EDIT: The tv doesn't seem to say it has any problems other than Idiots leaving things on for 4-6 days... It also has some burn in preventers/fixers in it... so I don't worry to much
I have been told that the burn in issue isn't that much of a problem for the television we have... Ill check with my dad...
If you want to test it, connect something like a DVD player to it, and let it stand there doing nothing for a couple of minutes. Then change the channel, and see if you're still able to see the DVD player's logo on the screen. Still, it's anything but recommended to use a plasma screen for a computer, as anything that stands still long enough (especially the windows taskbar) burns in sooner or later.
Testing right now BRB EDIT: Looks fine to me... went from the Wii menu to a perfect black screen w/o any lag or ghosting... Also... I don't intend to leave the taskbar up if at all possible... Gonna set it to auto hide
I don't intend to leave the taskbar up if at all possible... Gonna set it to auto hide
there's still tons of things that are going to stay in one place for a while, toolbars, game HUDs etc
Some of the more recent Plasma's don't suffer from burn in, but it's all luck to be honest.

Rather ditch the sound card, than the SSD, as you won't tell a differense with the sound, but you will with the load times. I haven't added a bluetooth keyboard+mouse, because that's something I'll let you decide, as most people prefer to decide that type of accessories themselves.
Get this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233087 And this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145235

Hmm... Ill probably drop the sound card in favor of a better ssd raid array... I can get a pair of crucial 64gig SSDs... :3

There's also no reason to get the Fatal1ty version of the Titanium. There is no audible difference between the two. There's also no reason to go with the 920 anymore since the 750 came out.
