Over the past few weeks, several distinct groups of (or individual) hackers have contacted me with proof that they can dump and run pirated PS Vita games.
We’ve seen a couple warez games surface on the PS Vita scene since Henkaku has been released. Adventure time, which had been confirmed to be a DRM-free developer leak (and as such did not involve any method to bypass the DRMs found on commercial games), and Tokyo Xanadu, for which the circumstances behind the release are still unknown (some people claim it is also a DRM-free developer leak, potentially from a translation company in China).
I have now been provided enough evidence by several hackers that Piracy on the PS Vita is a technical possibility. I have been sent proof of concept pkg files, and explanation on how the dumping process was done, by different groups.
From what I can see, there are now enough groups with the technical ability to pirate PS Vita games, and I’m sure piracy on the PS Vita is now just a matter of time. None of the people who contacted me have stated they would release anything, however I’m convinced that given the number of people with the know how, the technique will ultimately be released or leaked. This could happen publicly, or we will start seeing modding shops in Brazil or Indonesia charging for 3.60 Vita consoles with 64GB worth of pirated games or something.
Goodnight sweet prince.
Goodnight sweet prince.
nah its more like necrophillia at this point
From my understanding thirdparty support was pretty strong. Sony themselves abandoned it.
I always used my Vita to play nothing but PS1 and PS2 classics.
No guys, it's 'running backups', not piracy.
Don't believe wololo yet, they've made a lot of clickbait articles about Vita piracy already. The AT thing was confirmed a devkit and we don't know about TX yet. The thing about TX is the Chinese guy hasn't released anything not TX related so he could be a part of the Chinese dev team. No one knows how to decrypt the eboot files yet, or at least its not public. We have Henkaku atleast though, so it should be happening soon, just not yet
too bad all the good games were already given away on PS+

Wololo just released an article a couple days ago about someone detailing the entire process on how they were able to build a vita cartridge dumper.
Note: There are no warez linked.

I wouldn't dismiss it quite yet.

Yeah I knew about that already since I'm watching the scene closely, and that's what I said, that there's nothing right now but there might be later. It's really misleading to say piracy is here when its not. That's all I wanted to clarify really
So enlighten me, does this mean it'll be possible to bang emulators on it and use it for anything but psvita games?
I always used my Vita to play nothing but PS1 and PS2 classics.
How capable is it of playing PS2 games?
I basically only use my Vita to play Dissidia 012, Persona 4 Golden, various Monster Hunter clones and thinly veiled ecchi action games featuring lewd cartoon girls.
This, however, is an interesting development. We'll see where this goes.
I'm glad the DRM and piraters worked together to ensure the Vita had time to properly die before this happened.

My PS Vita is my Spelunky machine
Goodnight? People finally have a reason to buy a ps vita when they didnt before.
I see this come up a lot, but chances are if you're getting a system just to pirate odds are you're going to be getting a secondhand system to save even more money.
Also, most system manufacturers dont really profit from only system sales, they profit from software sales.

Source on this?
I know this was true for the PS3 at launch, but otherwise I've not heard about it.
So enlighten me, does this mean it'll be possible to bang emulators on it and use it for anything but psvita games?
Pretty much. Can't speak for certain on the subject of warez, but native emulation on the Vita has been possible for while now, it was just a royal pain in the ass to get working in the past.
Granted, the Vita homebrew scene is still in its infancy, but thanks to the HENhaku exploit, thing have been developing rapidly as of late. A lot of the older PSP emulators have already been ported to run natively on the Vita. Hell, there's even a DS emulator in development right now.
I wonder if a pirated Vita could be capable of Remote Play, could be cool
well the 3ds scene is a great scene but i'd rather see the vita get the psp treatment, now that thing was awesome with CFW
if this becomes a thing maybe a PS TV is worth a purchase now
Even with game backups, I don't know if I would even want to bother given Sony's decision to make proprietary memory cards and then charge out the ass for them.
[editline]25th August 2016[/editline]
Feels to me that Sony saw how much piracy went on with the PSP and have these memory cards so they at least get some money from pirates.
I refuse to get the Vita mostly because of the memory card thing.
Yeah the memory card prices are fucking retarded
I got really luck with the memory card. I remember that gamestop was running a sale for the 16GB card and they were selling it for $7.
They normally run $40+
Would be very interesting to see what happens if this comes around; The Vita hasn't had much going for it in terms of native games. Even retarded-proprietary-memory-cards-bullshit aside there hasn't been much reason to own one, seeing as the arguably best available games have been mostly ports.
It looks like the Chinese dude who uploaded the decrypted TX is going to upload a decrypted Vanillaware game soon. We'll see what happens when someone can actually access the thread for it.
I wouldn't normally condone piracy, but if the system is being abandoned it's good owners of the system can now get some more use out of it. I know my friend who has a Vita is happy about this.

Did it work well? Like a really good ammount of titles for it?
Its probably the only reason why I would even consider getting one.

i realized too late that instead of waiting for translation patches for my legally imported moon games to be possible
i could just start learning japanese

Yes, it works well. Not all of the best titles (in my opinion) are available but I loved playing FF7 on Vita. There's also Harvest Moon, MGS, Chrono Trigger and more FF games.
One of my best experiences on the Vita has been Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP). The dual analog sticks of the Vita really shines here, since it lets you ditch the infamous "claw" grip in favor of mapping the right stick to camera control as you'd do on a dualshock controller.
