• If I jailbreak with sim card in, will it unlock that network?

With my old iphone 3g, I always jailbroke with my Orange sim in and it would unlock to the Orange network. However, with my new iphone 4, i've had to cut down my sim so it fits, I inserted it but I only get 1 bar signal with no network name. I am guessing that I would have to re-jailbreak with redsn0w, with the sim card in to unlock to that network?
You can't cut the fucking card to make it fit that's stupid. Just buy a micro sim they aren't that much money and seeing how you just bought a new iphone 4 I'm sure you can afford a new sim card. [editline]16th May 2011[/editline] Well you can cut it but really if it doesn't work just buy a new one. People only cut the sims if they want to use an older device after upgrading to a newer device.
If it worked before, you might as well try again.
Also once you unlock it it'll detect the network from the sim and the network name will show up. You unlock it once it works on any network you have a sim card for.
It fits and reads one signal, but how would I unlock it? It's jailbroken at the moment.
It fits and reads one signal, but how would I unlock it? It's jailbroken at the moment.
Install Ultrasn0w
Install Ultrasn0w
Done, still the same :v: Apparently at the moment, Ultrasn0w hasn't released an update for the latest 4.3.3 baseband of iphone 4. I'd downgraded to 4.2.1 but the baseband would remain the same wouldn't it? I'm better off waiting I guess. Any news on this?

I'm not going to throw away a perfectly good sim and annoy my friends with having to get a new number.

Cutting sims down to size are fine, because the golden chip is all that's needed. When you jailbreak a device, it doesn't unlock it - ultrasn0w as mentioned is what's needed and you've already stuffed this up if you've upgraded to 4.3.3 - you need have not gone past 4.0.2 to have the baseband (Think of it like firmware for the GSM chip) of that version preserved in later custom iOS updates.
It fits and reads one signal, but how would I unlock it? You have to wait for the unlock to be updated to the most recent iOS version. The 'one bar' just means it's able to contact a network in the case of an emergency phone call (911, 112, 000, 999, etc will call via any network, not just the SIM card's network). And yes, you can cut down the SIM card to a microsim format. Everything moeislack has said so far is wrong lol
Thanks guys :shobon: An additional question, I had the odd spell of my screen going black which would be resolved by locking then unlocking using the button. Although, just before my screen would fizzle out within seconds after turning the phone on, again and again and again. So I did a hard reset using redsn0w and it is working fine? What's wrong, surely software not hardware? As it's a brand new phone. Apparently it's the proximity sensor?
I have a question vaguely similar to this, so I'll ask in here: I've just jailbroken my iPhone with Limera1n and installed ultrasn0w, but the problem is that when I rebooted my iPhone and inserted my T-Mobile sim, at the top it says 'Searching...' for a couple of minutes and then says 'No Service'. Any ideas how to fix this? (I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.1.)
Heve the same problem with my jb'd iPhone 3G (iOS 4.1). Been the same for months. Ultrasn0w does nothing.
Just used redsn0w to update to the 6.15.00 baseband (My previous baseband wasn't supported by ultrasn0w). Now the iPhone acknowledges my sim card and it shows I have a signal, but if I try to make a call it just says 'Call Ended' and goes back to the keypad screen. Any ideas?

If it happens again, you'll need to restore as new and test without restoring your backup to confirm a hardware fault. Once you do that Apple may consider a replacement unit if you're either within your limited HW warranty, or if you bought AppleCare for it. If it's still saying call ended, try a hard reset (Sleep+Home for 10 seconds).
It's not a US network, it's british T-Mobile.
Apparently my problem could be the LCD being fused. I tried updating with itunes, the problem persists; no apple logo or visible ios screen. In fact, the screen went white when it should have been the apple logo and it flashes when I press the lock/unlock screen. I had bought it brand new from a phone retailer from eBay, they say the warranty/guarantee isn't with them and that it is DIRECT to apple. What does this mean? Could the apple store give me a direct replacement? I was sure warranty came within the form of some sort of paper?

However, my problem is my iPhone is jailbroken but I went into itunes and clicked 'restore' to factory settings, which apparently wipes the jailbreak data. Although I can't see if 'Cydia' has been wiped from my phone as the screen does not work, but I'm hoping it has. Do the Genius Bar look into it by detail? I'm in the UK.
if it really did wipe, Cydia is gone.

But with what I know if you wiped it (restored it) it should look like how you bought it. I also live in the UK. From what I know you can book using the iTunes UK site or go into a local apple store and they will give you a date and time. Be warned it will be a bit of a pain.

I did the restore and iPhoneBrowser at the bottom saw my device and said the firmware version and that it was 'not Jailbroken', but we shall see if they replace it.
Great hope everything goes well.
Hey! Yeah it did, great service and friendly staff. Was waiting in line for about 20-25 minutes though but they got to the point without any messing about. They didn't even check my old iPhone for jailbreak but I got a brand new replacement. I won't be jailbreaking now though, keep it simple. Thanks for the advice :v:
I just commented on your other thread. Glad to hear. Yeah, they're stores are always busy here in Birmingham. At least if I run into a problem I know I'll get a good service. Hope everything goes well with your new shiny iPhone. Make sure to look after it.
