• My Computer Sucks.

This is a thread that basically, tells me, and my anger issues right now. That I need to get new stuff for this computer, without breaking a low budget.(500$) Alright, here is my problem. Running Windows 7, HOOO YEAH! ... Not. Runs like SHIT for me, just like a lot of things. Boot up, loads of errors, shit that I told the computer to NOT run on bootup runs ANYWAY. Boot up, doesn't take too long, nor is it short. It's okay. Out of no fucking where, I lose space on my Hard Drive. I just checked, I had 23.2GB free of 150GB or something left, now I have 23.0GB, I haven't even touched anything to download. Gaming, I play EVERY, EVERY GAME, EVEN World of Warcraft on Low, and receive 15, if not 20 fps in zones. Elaborating on that, I play TF2 with about 12 fps, with everything on low mat_picmip 10 and everything. Some games I can't even boot up with out it going, HA! You're trying to run this!? FUCK YOU! And stops completely. I've been told I have to upgrade my CPU, RAM, Motherboard. (Will be installing a fresh Windows 7 Pro) once it comes out(Getting for free due to a friend.) Here is what I am running. I've scanned AVG, Spybot, I have the complete suite of Uniblue crap, SpeedUpMyPC, RegistryBooster, DriverUpdater(w/e the fuck it's called). To no avail, my computer still runs like SHIT. I've cleaned out(air blaster) so no dust is in it. Computer is also 4 years old.
There really shouldn't be that many problems, looks like it should run fine-ish to me. Tried reformatting?
It is because of the CPU. The Pentium 4 CPUs are starting to die, as mine is having similar problems as yours requiring me to get a replacement. They are quite notorious for their lack of ability to last long amounts of time. Unlike me, you probably have the money to do it.
Odd, did you have any troubles with your previous OS, if so Time to upgrade some shit. But before we do that, try these, All Source games run in a lower DX level -dxlevel 90, 81, or 80 E.G
"-dxlevel 90" in advance launch options in steam.
Try running the updated and latest nVidia drivers, and lower your god damn res to 1024x768 or lower, with no AA that will really cut some pressure and I don't recommend it but try overclockign a tiny bit.

Both weren't bad, but really unstable as well. XP would BSoD, Vista had shitty quality in games for me. I'll try lowering the Dxlevel, but I've tried to lower resolutions with no AA, no change in FPS. Overclocking? Never taught myself how too.
My pentium 4 pc from 2005 is still going strong  [editline]09:50PM[/editline] Only for web-browsing though :frown:
dxlevel change did a number on my FPS, did improve. Though, still laggy in large scale battles.
Sounds like viruses, I had a virus on the family's machine to deal with once and this was before I replaced Norton with NOD32. The hard drive was complaining that it was full or had low space and Norton had been constantly alerting me about Viruses, turns out that the virus was trying to replace files that Norton deleted... Thus filling the drive. Fuck Norton.
The reason your losing space without downloading anything is system restore creating checkpoints for a system go-back in case you need to undo something.Just clean the restore points. It should give you plenty of room back.
yea it does suck :black101: 8800 GTS is fast, cept your p4 is hugely bottlenecking it with its single core (dual thread hyperthread) maybe shoot to get a n-e-w-p-r-ocessor. (lol i rhyme)

Hard drive and processor is all I can think would be a problem.
Yeah, you pretty much need a new cpu and a mobo (the one you have uses a shitty old 945 chipset). You don't need a very powerful cpu as the 8800gts is quite old (is it the old g80 version or is it g92?), but it's still a very decent card. Something like a phenom2 x3 720 + mobo + ram would cost you less than 300$ (if you use an am2+ mobo and ddr2 ram, am3+ddr3 would cost you a bit more). If you need more storage space, also get a new HD (less than 100 for 1TB). Seriously, how the fuck did you end up putting an 8800 in a pentium 4 system?
Stupid question, but how would I go about doing that?
Not sure on windows 7, but on vista, it's my computer -> right click on hard drive -> properties -> disk cleanup
Seriously, how the fuck did you end up putting an 8800 in a pentium 4 system?
It's called plugging the card into the PCI-E slot
My specs are worse except for my graphics card, and I'm doing fine. Downgrade to XP maybe? [editline]12:18AM[/editline] Wait, I just saw the Pentium 4. But, I have a fucking AMD Athlon 64 2.2 ghz Single Core. So, fuck.
It's called plugging the card into the PCI-E slot
Ok, let me rephrase it: Why the hell do you (i mean the OP) use an 8800 with such a shitty cpu? That pentium 4 is a huge bottleneck.
I agree with all the bottlenecking processor comments. I had a 1.6GHz dual core that came with my PC and when I upgraded to a 2.5GHz, everything blasted into motion for me. You'll be amazed if you end up upgrading your processor into something more fit for your GPU.
Your video card looks pretty okay, so get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157153 and put these in it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681 But that's just a low budget thing I threw together, micro atx because I don't know the wattage of your power supply or mobo size so unless you're running a tiny pc that stuff will fit
Ok, let me rephrase it: Why the hell do you (i mean the OP) use an 8800 with such a shitty cpu? That pentium 4 is a huge bottleneck.
Didn't think about the processor(cpu) bottlenecking it when I was 14. =/
Sounds like everything's fucked. You're better off getting a whole new computer than trying to fix that.
Sounds like everything's fucked. You're better off getting a whole new computer than trying to fix that.
That is no help Steel, Give up. If you have a LGA775 Cpu socket, you're better off upgrading that shit.
You could slam a quad into an LGA775. Processor is really the only thing that needs updating.
You can't put a Intel Quad in his motherboard it won't support it.
it's a different socket to Core 2s
Same socket different chipset.
Here is what I am thinking. Motherboard; Cpu; Ram. For upgradation.
CPU, CPU, and once again, CPU. This is crazy idea to use 8800GTS simultaneously with an old P IV. [editline]02:51PM[/editline] Buying the additional RAM isn't necessary.
