Ok, a few weeks ago I was having problems with my iPhone 3gs and I tried to sort it out this morning. I used the pc that I sync it with to upgrade to ios 5.1.1. So my iphone needs me to input options and shit, what language to use etc, at the end I need to put sim card in but it wouldn't accept the sim card. After watching some vids on youtube of how to activate it without a sim I try to jailbrake it, but selecting the ios 5.1 ipsw. Doesn't really work so I boot up my iPhone, but when I try to activate it I get more options this time, asking if I wat to restore from iTunes or an iCloud backup. I choose the iCloud backup from just over a month ago. It says it will take 8 hours to download all the data back onto my iPhone. In the end it took about 45 mins but there was a problem, It had removed a whole bunch of system apps, and restored a bunch I had removed (I removed youtube, voice commands, videos and stocks, or at least those are the ones from off the top of my head) Before I can even do anything this comes up; This could be the email of the guy who owned this before me, but it seems more like a practical joke, after I put in my deatils I proceded to deleate all my appstore apps, to start fresh. I was playing GTA IV on my xbox at the time I found a glitch and recorded it to show to my friend. I had previously checked if my photos where on my phone but after recording the video both my camera and my photo apps dissapeared. I couldn't google it because I no longer have safari, or the appstore. Heres a screenshot of what I have left. Can anyone help me sort it out, or has any info on what the fuck actualy happened. Mostly I'm just pissed that I can't watch adventure time for a while.
Restore it to factory defaults. Then restore from iCloud backup. You need a SIM card to activate the phone. Afterwards you can remove it if you don't use the phone to call. Don't expect the phone to keep working properly if you jailbreak it. I recommend not to do it unless there are certain apps you really really want.
You can activate it with the simcard you use for your current phone.
It needed to be O2 anyway, but the simcard reader on it is broken, but I found a way round it 1. Restore to ios 5.1.1 using iTunes 2. Open Redsn0w and select ios 5.1 3. Jailbrake You will be at the activation screen, but you will not need a sim card to activate, and more options will be added. 4. Start usig iPhone as new (Do not use iTunes or iCloud backup) Problem solved Found this all out through trial and error
