A film adaptation of the classic '80s video game "Tetris" will be falling into theaters sometime in the near future. Threshold Entertainment has teamed up with the Tetris Company to develop a live-action film based on the game. While no directors or cast are attached to the film yet, there is a story in place. "It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie," Threshold’s CEO Larry Kasanoff tells Speakeasy exclusively. "This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’'e not giving feet to the geometric shapes."

"Brands are the new stars of Hollywood," he says. "We have a story behind 'Tetris' which makes it a much more imaginative thing." If the film does well, Kasanoff isn’t looking to limit the "Tetris" world to just a big-screen experience. "We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness."
http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/09/30/tetris-movie/

Fitting avatar, Why tetris of all things.....

"Tetris Squad! Fall in line!"
Is this one of those patent things where they have to do something with it or they'll lose the patent so they do some shitty movie/game/whatevs?
I don't see how this could be anything other than a major flop, the idea of a movie based off of tetris just does not sit right with me.
But there is already this: How much more of a story can you build around tetris? -edit Also, what the hell does this mean?
“We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness.”
One character will be voiced by Wayne Brady.
I'm honestly struggling to think of anything (Bad or good) Tetris related for a film, I think the best thing I can think of is that "History of the Soviet Union arranged to the melody of Tetris music video" Snip - Ninja'd, no need to post it again And even then its more in the background than actually a part of it.
But there is already this: -edit Also, what the hell does this mean?
Probably boasting that they'll be using exotic locations for the film shoot and that they'll make it more epic that way or something. Either way this will probably bomb hard at the box office.
Even if this wasn't made by a studio who recently made one of the worst movies of all time, I'd still be puzzled. The fuck am I supposed to visualize when I hear the term 'tetris movie'?
-edit Also, what the hell does this mean?
It makes sense now! It's based on the CD-i port of Tetris!
If the film does well, Kasanoff isn’t looking to limit the "Tetris" world to just a big-screen experience
I hope they aren't planning to make some shitty game based on it, there's no way that'd sell
I hope they aren't planning to make some shitty game based on it, there's no way that'd sell
It would be amazing if the Tetris: The Movie: The Game was a generic third person shooter.

EDIT: Oh wait, the music changes. EDIT: Music on LV3 and 8 sounds a lot like music I would hear in a Chinese restraunt.
I never thought they'd actually do it :v:
"Brands are the new stars of Hollywood," he says. "We have a story behind 'Tetris' which makes it a much more imaginative thing."
some creepy foodfight vibes to that statement, and hella late to the "hey we totally made a story based around a basic game" thing by a good number of years
I love how out of place the soothing soundtrack and visuals are - not that Tetris is a hardcore game or anything, but it's just so corny.
A film adaptation of the classic '80s video game "Tetris" will be falling into theaters sometime in the near future.
Why? Like who in the universe seriously said "You know what, I want a fucking Tetris movie"
Surprised no one posted this yet. More realistically, though, I am expecting something more like Battleship and how that film was supposedly an adaptation of the game. Which is to say, I'm expecting Tetris to not even involve blocks of various shapes until maybe the last 15 minutes. And I expect a romance drama spliced with an alien invasion.
Why? Like who in the universe seriously said "You know what, I want a fucking Tetris movie"
Someone who doesn't understand the concept of the bottom of the barrel, and is busy tunneling into the Earth's mantle.
Why? Like who in the universe seriously said "You know what, I want a fucking Tetris movie"
The same guy who wanted to make a movie about Mrs. Butterworth and the Vlasic Pickle Stork defeating Generic Product Nazis.
You better not be defending Clutch Powers
just a reminder that they've somehow managed to keep existing for a decade after one of the film industry's greatest disasters
Spoilers the I block will sacrifice itself to destroy lines.
Are we really so desperate to avoid IPs that we must make movies out of puzzle games now? You can probably just take whatever your plot is to the movie and just remove all Tetris references, and actually improve the film.
