I thought this game died a while ago even after going F2P How many people still play it?
I thought this game died a while ago even after going F2P How many people still play it?
It's retained a small dedicated playerbase. it's not huge or anything but it doesn't appear to be dying any time soon.
Ooh, it finally is Free to Play? I'll try it out.
Took them a little too long tbh. I only know a few people from my old progression raiding guild who still play it.
I remember how much of a fan i was about the entire game. For the most part it felt like a decent enough single player game because the storytelling was pretty interesting and the missions got spiced up every now and then. That said i eventually quit because the playerbase was shrinking seriously hard

The art style and humor gives it quite a lot of charm as well. The problem is at the end of the day its just another cookie cutter numbers/grinding MMO but presented a little differently.
I still play this for a month or so every now and then. It's a solid MMO held back by it's lack of players... It really deserves to do better. That said the housing is still 100% dope and fun to mess around in regardless.

I just can't stick to MMOs when no one I know is playing them and sadly everyone gave up on Wildstar. It is a really cool game, its a shame it faded into the background so quickly.
I still really enjoy the act of just playing Wildstar even if most of what I do is run around and slaughter small enemies while cutting down trees.
I remember being hyped for this game pre-realease because of the art. The character and envioronment art is pretty stellar. Check out Cory Loftis, the dude got a job at Disney and got to work on Zootopia as an art director because of his work on this, (plus his personal art that is awesome obviously). It's NCsoft so, they have a knack for attracting the best new artists..

Kind of sad this never took off, I followed it during development and had a ton of fun playing it. Last I heard, their content team is down to a skeleton crew :(.

Compare the early content updates to the latest and you can see some serious differences in content and care, even art style
dunkey normally plays stuff up for the sake of comedy, but i'd be lying if i said this didn't perfectly encapsulate my wildstar experience
My brother bought me the deluxe edition of this game as a birthday present when it first came out. Couple years later, if I ever bring up Wildstar in a conversation with him, he always says to me, "I really wanted it to be good." It's quite a shame. The game had really good visuals.

Such a shame it just didn't took off, it still lacked real innovative features to make it stand out among the hordes of other MMO's which has one or two gimmicks attached to it
I've reached max level at least in most MMO's I've played but I barely made it to 20 in Wildstar. Maybe it was my class pick but the combat felt more boring than a typical tab target MMO to me. I thought the art and world design were fantastic though.

I find Warriors to be horrendously boring, while Medic (my main) is tons of fun since they're super mobile and deal in heavy burst damage.

I got to go to a little party in the 2K offices in London in March last year and play Battleborn/meet some devs, and ended up in their discord/with a bunch of gameplay programmers from Gearbox on my Steam friends. All of them were hyper enthusiastic and excited for the game, and surprisingly quick to react to feedback (One of the MP gamemodes on Battleborn in particular was completely changed because our group kept finding incredibly cheap/abusive strategies to win) It's kinda sad because they weren't some money grubbing suit, they were super passionate about the game and really genuinely wanted it to do well.

It's like the difference between a developer showing up on GameSpot and Giant Bomb. On GameSpot, they're highlighting all the intricacies of a demo for an audience who just wants a core of what the game is. On Giant Bomb, they sort of faff about and do silly shit in their demo that shows that they do have a passion for the game. In particular, there was a video where they played HITMAN with the guys from IO and it was pretty darn good. I just wish that passion could always translate to doing well. I really wish Wildstar was more successful, because its main struggle now is to get out decent amounts of content due to a faltering fanbase.
It's hard to put a pin in why games like Wildstar are starting to struggle considering gaming in general has gotten insanely huge in the last 10 or so years, I'd guess it could be down to the fact that for a lot of people the WoW MMO formula has gotten tiresome, it was amazing and new 13 years ago but not so much now. That and MOBAs have taken a big a very big portion of people who are looking for a game they can get stuck in and play a ridiculous amount for years without getting bored. It's a dying formula, there needs to innovation than just a few twists on how WoW works.

It was probably the reason I couldn't afford raiding gear when I finally joined a proper guild. :v: It really is such a shame that the community just isn't growing enough. It's so small that when I was still playing, I pretty much knew most of the community (from both factions) just by doing world bosses for dailies. Hell, you can queue up for battlegrounds a couple of times and you've pretty much met literally the entire PVP community.

So yeah, it's a pretty small community and it gets smaller every time I come back. It's to the point where I barely get frame dips in Thayd.
My biggest problem with Wildstar was honestly the story. I admit I didn't get that far, but it felt really boring. For like a solid 2-3 zones it was literally 'the rebels are good and wholesome, the empire evil and mean.' There wasn't any sort of depth to the factions. The empire's view was the exact same one as the rebels', there was no point where I felt like I was a good person as an empire player and no point where I didn't as a rebel. [editline]5th January 2017[/editline] I mean maybe it changed later on, but it felt hyper black and white for like 20 levels and I just couldn't stand it.
