Upgrade that Sh#t bro - New computers are for rich people.

First of all, pardon the thread title. I cannot seem to do sensible titles no matter what. :v:
But to keep things brief, My brother has a HP m8400f and want's me to upgrade it so he can play (MY beloved) Battlefield 3.
The budget for this, including a new PSU (it only has a 300w psu), is £200. Maybe £250 at a maximum.
I have spotted some second hand GPU's at a local CEX (buy/sell/recycling) shop, those being a Gigabyte GTX 470 for £105, or a GTX 570 for £165.
And before you say "just buy a new PC", he doesn't want to spend all his money. My brother is Scrooge reincarnated. :v:
Edit: Almost forgot, he'll be playing either 1680x1050 or 1080p.
Here't the speccy shot:

I wouldn't buy the crap they sell at CEX. You could just get a 500w - 600w PSU for about £50 and a HD 7850 for £150.
I think the CPU would bottleneck it somewhat, but you'd need a new motherboard if you wanted a better cpu.

Those are both what I have in my pc (but with a i5 3570k) and they play bf3 brilliantly.
But any 500w 80+ certified PSU would be fine.
And it could do with a new CPU too that phenom is old as shit. But that would add at least another £200.
Is the crap at CEX really that crap? And i've told Scrooge about how he's better off just buying a whole knew pc (or a better CPU And mobo as you've said), but his nickname says all unfortunately.

Well it's overpriced, and I don't trust CEX with the amount of stolen phones they sell... The gtx570 is last generation of nvidia's GPU's. And a brand new 7850 is cheaper and faster in most games. Plus the GTX 570 uses a lot more power which would require a more expensive PSU.

It will all work without a new CPU but the GPU isn't going to be able to work to it's fullest with a 5 year old CPU and RAM holding it back.
