No drugs were found in the home of a Tucson man shot and killed May 5 by a Pima County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, the Arizona Star reported Friday. Former Marine Jose Guerena, 26, was killed by SWAT team members after confronting them with a rifle in his hand as they broke into his home to serve a search warrant related to a complex drug investigation.
Guerena's was one of four homes searched by SWAT teams in the investigation that day. Police said they found about $95,000 in cash, an unspecified amount of marijuana, and firearms during the raids, but nothing especially incriminating was found at Guerena's house.
Police said items seized at Guerena's house included a pistol, paperwork, tax returns, insurance papers, bank statements, and a bank card. They also found body armor in a hallway closet and US Border Patrol hat in the garage. Owning weapons, body armor, and Border Patrol hats is not illegal.
No arrests were made at any of the homes searched.
Guerena's wife, Vanessa, and their four-year-old son were in the home when it was raided. Vanessa Guerena has said she saw armed men moving around her house and woke her husband, who was sleeping after working all night at his job in a mine. She and the child hid in a closet while Guerena went to confront the intruders.
Police originally said Guerena fired at officers before they returned fire. They had to revise that statement when it was revealed that the safety on Guerena's gun had not been switched off.

:saddowns: died for nothing.
The guys who shot the dude, and the guys that authorised the raid, should pay tribute to the family for the wrongs they did, even if it was an accident.
that's bloody disgusting

Nice job trying to paint him as the bad guy you idiots.
I like how that one SWAT member goes up to the door with pistol in hand just to get a few shots off.

Same incident by the way.
There seems to be a trend of police busting into houses and then shooting the fuck out of the owners.
He served his country only to be shot by the people he fought for.
I'm quite sure the SWAT members felt absolutely horrible after the incident.
i hope they lose their jobs at least...

its what happens in raids
Ex-marine = potentially dangerous.
I hate these swat raids sometimes.
This reminds me of this

Swat enter house, kill the family dog just because it was barking then act like everything was ok.
whats funny is this is totally legal. this is fucked up.
Thank you war on drugs...you just ruined another family's life.
And absolutely nothing will happen to them because our government likes to protect everyone that serves in an armed forces branch (including police and SWAT) to such an extent that it infringes on civilian civil liberties.
I am also kind of curious why he just had $95,000 lying around.

In that case they would protect the Marine.

It was in one of the other homes they searched. The article listed everything found in his house seperately.
Why does it say no drugs found in the title?
Did you read the story? He didnt have any in his house, it was the others.
Tl;dr version for idiots: The man did nothing wrong, infact, he rushed out to protect his wife and kid from what he thought to be armed invaders. Why? Because no-knock warrants are fucking s-t-u-p-i-d
These must've been some very inexperienced officers, or just a poorly funded team which has lead to a lack of training hours.

He didn't, they found that in one of the other three houses raided at the same time.

He was not in service anymore, so no.
Why the fuck does the SWAT teams just shoot fucking everyone
Knock at the fucking door or wait before shooting, dont expect someone to not point a rifle at you when you fucking kick it in
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
And they even lied about it
Someone needs to die in hell
I see this kind of story pop up every few months, and I hate that they never really catch on, just kinda fade away with every other news item.
There needs to be more awareness about this, that SWAT team will surely get away with this.
Seconds later, Jose was sprawled face-first in a pool of his own blood, shredded by dozens of rounds fired by the SWAT team. That's how his four-year-old son would later find him. Joel was left alone after Vanessa, who had gone out to plead for someone to get medical help for her husband, was assaulted and brutalized by the SWAT operators and then detained for questioning. The child remained alone in the house with the body of his dead father while Krygier developed a "tactical team" to extract the child at minimal risk. That is, minimal risk to the berserkers who had just killed Joel's dad.
That's the war on drugs for you.
its what happens in raids
You say that as if it's supposed to happen
Ugh whatever happened to SWAT being there to save lives, not take them?
I swear, I think the only training they get is from SWAT 4.
The was a complete slaughter, what the fucking hell man.
