The incident took place on Simly Dam Road, 200 metres from Bhara Kahu police station around 8:30pm on Sunday.
http://tribune.com.pk/story/630710/high-profile-assassination-haqqani-network-key-leader-slain-near-islamabad/
That's a very flattering photo
At this point the Taliban is rapidly losing control over their regions. Their higher ups are being assassinated left and right by the US and the radicalists are splitting off into smaller groups, hostile to the Taliban itself. In the end, I don't see terrorism acts like the those the Taliban have pulled dying anytime soon, but at least a major part of that is falling apart.

Some sources for the news above have further information, claiming to be from Pakistani militants who said that his assassination was conducted by the ISI and that retribution attacks against the Pakistani government will follow.
“Nasir-ud-Din Haqqani has been martyred by ISI. He was killed because he bravely supported Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud,” Shahidullah Shahid, the main spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), told AFP
This is a sign of two different possibilities - Infighting (and possibility of a coup) within the Taliban, which could, as you say, result in the Taliban breaking down back into small factions. The other possibility is that the ISI is now cleaning house, killing off the high profile members (Again, fun fact - Dr. Haqqani up there was living in Rawalpindi for several years despite being a member of a known terrorist organization, freely travelled to the Gulf to do fund raising and hold talks with other Taliban members there) and letting the Taliban implode on its own.
Pretty sure at this point we've been backstroking through blood.
Say no to animal cruelty :(
Even though the USA and coalition forces haven't managed to completely total such organizations, at least we have good riddance to some other bad rubbish at present. The lesser the quantity of such people fouling the world, the better.
