A teenager's legs have been severed after he was hit by a train on the NSW mid-north coast.
The 18-year-old had both his legs cut off when he was struck at a railway crossing in Taree.
“The young man, unfortunately and it's tragic, he was celebrating his 18th birthday on that night,” said Inspector Christine George of Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command.
Police believe he had earlier been celebrating his birthday at a nearby residence with family and friends.
Emergency services found the man on the tracks with his legs severed, at about 4.30am on Sunday.
He was taken to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

While police investigated the scene, a group of people threw rocks at them and the 33-year-old train driver.
“Two of my police did actually get hit by rocks and were forced to take refuge in the front carriage of the train with the train driver,” said Inspector George.
Officers were forced to take refuge in the train driver's cabin.
Ambulance paramedics were also blocked, pushed and verbally abused by the group during their initial attempts to treat the teen.
An ambulance vehicle was damaged after being hit by rocks.
Scum. I wonder what would happen if the rock throwers ended up be responsible for the victim dying because they couldn't get to hospital in time.
You lose my respect the moment you hinder emergency services on purpose.
a group of people
what incentive is there for these shit heads to do this?
Mate, the second you hinder emergency services you should be arrested on the spot.
The NSW emeregency crews have had a pretty tough fucking week this is the last thing they deserve
are NSW police usually armed?
are NSW police usually armed?
Police are armed in every state and territory of Australia.
You lose my respect the moment you hinder emergency services on purpose.
harrassing and attacking policemen for no reason is low.
harrassing and attacking Emergency service is the lowest a person can sink.
harrassing and attacking Emergency service when they are trying to save a critically injured person is something I can't even put into words.
are NSW police usually armed?
Yep, NSW police are armed with a glock 17 I believe and taser. However, police rarely pull out their firearm.
I wonder if anyone is going to try and justify the rock throwers in this thread, unironically
because there is just no justifying this
I wonder if anyone is going to try and justify the rock throwers in this thread
don't worry we can just throw rocks at them.
I wonder what reasoning these people came up with to rationalize throwing rocks at someone being helped in a emergency
I wonder if the driver has courage to continue. Train drivers usually quite there job or ask to be demoted to platform staff after causing fatalities with their train.

oh that works too I guess

Depends on whether yawmwen has been unbanned recently or not
Police are armed in every state and territory of Australia.
If that's the case then why didn't they draw their weapons and tell the group of harassers to disperse? Reading the article makes it sound like it wasn't that big of a group, and was probably a bunch of bogans to boot so the sight of a few cops pointing guns at their faces would've made them fuck right out of there.

Checked the laws on it, they'd be looking at around 5 years prison just for violently obstructing ambulance officers, even more given they assaulted the police officers and the driver, as well as damage to property
So there is an anti-police sentiment in Australia as well? Because I see no other "reason" for them to do this.
Under any other circumcision, I can't disagree with rock throwing, but throwing rocks at paramedics? What the fuck have they done?
I'm so confused, why the hell would you throw rocks at police and paramedics on scene?
What the hell do they want to accomplish by doing so?
This is so weird
I cannot think of any possible reason anyone would do this

Uhh..might want to check your spelling there
i hate it when people inconvenience or hurt public service workers. assholes like this take these people for granted so often it makes me sick
Impeding someone from emergency medical treatment is basically like being an accessory homicide in my book...I'm still wondering why they were incensed from the get go.
you have to be a special kind of dirt to do that
I can't even imagine being compelled to do this. I always get the fuck out of the way of ambulances (like you're supposed to by law) but specifically because you never know if someone is bleeding out and your dumbass getting in the way could make the difference.
Under any other circumcision, I can't disagree with rock throwing, but throwing rocks at paramedics? What the fuck have they done?
You're right if some random guy tried to circumcise me I'd probably throw rocks at him too.
Under any other circumcision, I can't disagree with rock throwing, but throwing rocks at paramedics? What the fuck have they done?
Even looking past the obvious error (assuming "circumstances") you're still sounding ridiculous. "I can't disagree with rock throwing"? Please tell me that's also in error
what incentive is there for these shit heads to do this?
"Police state", "police is just a gang", "police is onto our freedom", etc.
I am amazed how in less then a month everybody exploded with hate towards people that go out everyday to deal with the weirdest shit the society has to offer.
The only reason I can think of.

They should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
That's screwed up. Wonder why the hell they had the urge to do that. Some local politics thing?

Nah mate, it was his legs that got cut off
