Yeah you heard me... Seemingly unsatisfied with the wads of cash raked in from MW3's initial release, our robot overlords at Activision have taken down a youtuber's video guides on the magnificent Modern Warfare 3 (and Modern Warfare 2 if I read that correctly) and are now making you pay to watch that shit in CoD Elite. Personally the concept is completely over my poor, Irish head - money for videos? Whatever will those masterminds think of next?
I'm not surprised to be honest.
Activision want you to pay them so you can watch videos that other people have made? Did I get that right?
If this works out for them it's only a matter of time before others will think of this as well..
Wait what the hell? The MW3 videos he had were like "express" versions, that were there just to advertise the fact that the full ones are available on Elite. So Activision basically took down videos that were pretty much made to advertise Elite.
Ignoring that you can only upload 30 second clips to Elite.
As much as i like the guy (xboxahoy), Im not going to fork out money just to watch them on elite. Its quite a dick move. Edit: If you want to advertise elite, dont remove the videos. How Backwards can you get, Activision?
Ignoring that you can only upload 30 second clips to Elite.
Those videos aren't just gameplay clips, they're all in-depth guides on all the weapons that are available in the game, all with in-game stats, advice on what equipment to use with them and even some info on the real life weapon.
Has anyone tried to kill Bobby yet?
People chat about all that for fun and earn money through advertising - why should I need to subscribe to a service and let a company with no input into those videos earn money for nothing?
You shouldn't. Paying for Elite is fucking retarded.
Can they actually legally make a profit by selling access to youtube videos? Wouldn't that violate the TOS or something?
Can they actually legally make a profit by selling access to youtube videos? Wouldn't that violate the TOS or something?
Nope, Youtube contains a lot of pay-to-play material. Full movies, TV series, ETC.
Can they actually legally make a profit by selling access to youtube videos? Wouldn't that violate the TOS or something?
I don't think they're really selling access to the youtube videos, they're just putting the videos on Elite instead of youtube. XboxAhoy has a contract or something with Activision so I guess he'll just give the videos to Activision first instead of uploading them to his youtube page.
Can they actually legally make a profit by selling access to youtube videos? Wouldn't that violate the TOS or something?
Its more he's agreed to make videos that he would normally release on youtube but instead he'll release them on that elite thing only.
Those videos aren't just gameplay clips, they're all in-depth guides on all the weapons that are available in the game, all with in-game stats, advice on what equipment to use with them and even some info on the real life weapon.
The title suggests that they were taken down to make you watch them on Elite but Elite's made to show off your wicked sick 1080 noscope with the throwing knife from across the map. Oh I see now, it's some contractual obligation.

This isn't a good marketing tactic.
What's next? Cutscenes for $10?
Those videos aren't just gameplay clips, they're all in-depth guides on all the weapons that are available in the game, all with in-game stats, advice on what equipment to use with them and even some info on the real life weapon.
D'oh boy more reasons for the short ones to yell about how much they know about guns cause all they do is play COD. Can't wait...
Audio for an additional $3 fee
What's next? Cutscenes for $10?
Bob kotick already considered that once actually, not sure what happened with the the idea.
Checked out some of the older videos on Youtube, they're pretty well made.
D'oh boy more reasons for the short ones to yell about how much they know about guns cause all they do is play COD. Can't wait...
XboxAhoy actually provides perfectly correct information and what variation of the gun or whatever is in the game. So in this case you can actually know more about guns by watching those videos.
hahahahaha
Did you actually watch any of his videos?
XboxAhoy actually provides perfectly correct information and what variation of the gun or whatever is in the game. So in this case you can actually know more about guns by watching those videos.
Good to know. Regardless, still doesn't help.
Bob kotick already considered that once actually, not sure what happened with the the idea.
Not exactly. He said he thought there was a reasonable market for taking all the cutscenes from a game, pasting them together and releasing them on DVD.
Why watch a video about the gun when you can just equip and use it to try it for yourself.
hahahahaaha fuck
