The opening exchanges between the pope and the president – who disagree on issues ranging from the need to fight global warming to welcoming and integrating migrants of all faiths – began on an unusually sombre note, with the pope not exuding his usual warmth and cheerfulness.
Francis also signalled to the president that it was best to talk out of the earshot of reporters and cameras, who were quickly led out of the papal library where the two had a 29-minute chat with only a translator present. Trump could be heard saying it was an honour to meet the pope.
The discussion was described as “cordial” in a statement by the Holy See, which said “satisfaction was expressed” for the good US relationship with the Vatican and their “joint commitment in favour of life, and freedom of worship and conscience”.
“It is hoped that there may be serene collaboration between the state and the Catholic church in the United States, engaged in service to the people in the fields of healthcare, education and assistance to immigrants,” the statement said.
---
As is customary, the two exchanged gifts. Trump offered the pope a large box that he said was filled with books written by Martin Luther King.
“This is a gift for you,” Trump was overheard saying. “I think you will enjoy them. I hope you do.”
Francis gave Trump a large medallion that depicted an olive branch, a symbol of peace, to which the president replied: “We can use peace.” The medallion is traditionally offered to politicians, though the symbol varies.
Yay?
Because the blurb didn't write in the "Jr." for Martin Luther King, I at first thought the gift was a collection of writings by Martin "95 Theses" Luther and freaked for a moment.
Look how bloody evil trump and his minions look beside the Pope. Bet he couldn't wait to get that shit over with lol

But he's totally a Christian. His favorite passage is 2 Corinthians.
Anyways at least there's no controversy at this part. Although that first photo with Melania probably could have been taken at a moment when she doesn't look like she's sighing.

I'm absolutely floored that there are still people who think he's christian.
He has displayed absolutely 0 values of Christianity, unless we're talking about the crusades version of it. These people are so stupidly blinded by their religion they turn downright gullible.
Son of a bitch, I was hoping for a fistfight.
but did the pope tell trump about a little game called undertale?
i need to know
It's a little refreshing to see Trump not fuck something up for once.
What a bar to hold the president up to.

The one statement that made it impossible for him to be a Christian is when he said that he doesn't have anything to ask forgiveness for. That is antithetical to any understanding of Christianity.
EDIT:
Just to make it extremely clear from a Biblical perspective for those who aren't familier with it. Here's 1 John 1:8-10
"8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us."
So it's news when it goes well? Oh dear

A lot of people who claim to be Christian but in practice no nothing about the religion outside a few "sound bites" if you will, usually go with the idea "Jesus died on the cross for my sins, therefore I can do no wrong" which is a horrendous misrepresentation of the faith no matter what denomination.

As far as I can read, this is literally the only thread in Polidicks about Trump doing something right :v:

"This idiot tried to give me one of those video games those kids love these days. Under... rail i think it was called? I don't know, i wasn't paying attention. I have more important things to do."
Kinda wished Pope Francis would roundhouse-kick Trump off the St. Peter's Basilica balcony. Ah well.
Imagine if he told Pope Francis state secrets.
"We got these agents in Italy."

The First Lady looks absolutely terrified in virtually every major photo op. it seems.
She seriously didn't expect to dig this deep when she married Trump I bet.
One day you're a fabulously wealthy man's trophy wife, the next you're the First Lady of the United States. Crazy.

Well if she's sneaky enough, right now they're quite close to Slovenia, so maybe she could give him the slip and take off
Breaking News: Trump doesn't engage in verbal diarrhea
Only because the adult in the room was smart enough to send the reporters away for their talk.

What are they wearing on their heads? It looks like the same person Kellyane Conway employs for makeup just doily on the first lady's (Ivanka?) head.

It's a veil. It's standard practice for family members of heads of state to wear black and veils when meeting the Pope. (Unless they're Catholic, then they get to wear white)

Which is super weird because she use to be a model. One would think she would be the most presentable person in any photo-op.

I realize its a veil, what I'm trying to say is that they both look quite gaudy for what I think to be somber attire. I also realize my opinion isn't others opinions so I'm just being petty when you get down to it.
But in comparison to the past two first ladies:
[t]https://d3i6fh83elv35t.cloudfront.net/newshour/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Obamas_Benedict-1024x682.jpg[/t][t]http://www.biyokulule.com/sawiro/sawirada_waaweyn/Bush%20-%20Pope1.jpg[/t]
I think that the examples worn by the Trump's are simply odd.
I also realize I skipped some verbs in my previous post:

With Trump's history of being influenced by anyone that has a conversation, i dearly hope that Francis has had a good conversation with him. Honestly he's probably the best person for Trump to be speaking to these days, someone who won't be trying to influence him for personal reasons, but out of a genuine interest for the well being of the world and all those that inhabit it.

I don't think they're really odd, per-se, but they definitely contrast what they've been previously wearing at other visitations or public events.
Lots of news stations are commenting on the clothes as well since this event went pretty 'smoothly' without anything to stir about.
