My nan died in November last year. She died of liver cancer, she didn't drink and apparently the cancer was caused by her smoking since she was 15 until 6 years before she died. She was 78. Ever since my mom died in 2001, when i was 12 she became my new best friend. I'd visit her more than anyone, inc. friends. She really did become my second mom.
She wasn't in any debt and her mortgage was fully paid off. She survived from her state pension and pension she earnt whilst in the land army during WWII.
Her bungalow is on the market for £135,000. I think all the money from that the house being sold will go to my 2 aunties. But I am unsure about that.
Yesterday I was told that my nan has left £1000 to grandchildren and great grandchildren, 8 in total.
I don't know what to do with my £1000. I don't want to blow it on something I'll regret. I need to get my car serviced and maybe some new clothes but I have other money for that.
Facepunch, what is the smart thing to do with £1000? I'm all for saving it, but no idea what the best method for saving it would be. ISA?

100,000 penny chews

Split it into thirds. One for spending money, one for short term savings, and one for long term savings.
New clothes for you, and flowers for your dead nan. Save the rest of the money, they will wind up useful someday.
:sigh:
Yeah, cash it for pennies.
Put it towards a new car? it's not something you'll regret if it's something you need
Invest it.
1000 beers
Talk to a bank manager
What is with people and their need to spend money as soon as they have them. Do you ever deposit money in the bank to save up?
build a new rig
Or penis enlargment
That is really not a lot of money. Put it in the bank.
Spend it fast so having a lot of money doesn't go to your head.
Buy a sex robot.
Buy a kilo raisens, go to the empire state building, eat them all - wait 20 mins. Then take the elevator to the top, while farting like a horse.
Half for long term saving, the other half for something that you really want.

This. I've inherited quite a lot from my great grandparents. And it's all being saved for college.
Most other people would have bought a car/ipod/computer by now.
Spend it on things to better your life. Then you'll know that you didn't spend her gift in vain.
