Well, my dad said i should buy a better one than the 460, so he'll sponsor me for money to a 480. Anyway, which one should i get? Chassi is a Antec 300, if it matters. Or should i get an ATI? Or some other model? I really have no idea. Make sure the GPU can fit in the case. (it's 10.5 inches long) Also, you should post the rest of your specs; since the GTX 480 is a high-end card, you might run into a bottleneck.
You have a cool dad. Wish my daddy had knowledge about graphic card and wasn't an ass.
I'd choose Gigabyte
Do you have a powerful enough PSU for the GTX480?

You basically want help to choose a brand, right? [editline]08:12PM[/editline] Gigabyte
Yes, people recommend Gigabyte, so i think i'll choose it.
It's also the cheapest one, which is a bonus :v:
But what's the difference, excluding the price? Can't see any in the descriptions...
None really, apart from maybe the warranty
Uh, the 480 is better than the 5870, right?
Yes, it's much better in DX11, but it's pretty close in other stuff
480: 700MHz 5870: 870 MHz Ain't that some big difference?
I meant 480 is a bit better in other stuff. Besides, Nvidia has a much better architecture so that "each Hz is worth more".
480: 700MHz 5870: 870 MHz Ain't that some big difference?
It's not as simple as that. Besides the core clock, performance is affected by the number of texture mapping units, raster operation pipelines, shader processors and the memory bandwidth. It's nearly impossible to compare cards made by different companies by their specs due to different gpu architectures. Just stick to benchmarks for performance comparisons.
Looked up alot of videos, and it seems that the 5870 is better... Goddamnit.
Looked up alot of videos, and it seems that the 5870 is better... Goddamnit.
videos what GTX480 is better but not worth the extra $100 imo
From 460? In all the comparison videos on youtube, they show that the 5870 is better..

Intel Q9550 Quad core @ 2.83GHz. 35 pages? Damn. [editline]02:36AM[/editline] Well, it doesn't seem that good after all, well then, should i go for a 470?

a GTX470 is enough unless you want to super-future-proof your computer
well his dad is giving him money, so why not
Not really, i'm just taking a loan, i get my studiebidrag next month so...
what are what are you illiterate
It's really just.. I watch some awesome reviews, but when someone thinks it's bad, it just seems horrible.. So i should buy it? :buddy:
no it's an amazing card and right now there's a really small price gap between it and the 5870 and the performance isn't necessarily a small gap so yeah I would get it
EVGA is a good brand, they offer lifetime warranty. XFX boasts lifetime warranty also, but it seems they've slowed down greatly on the amount of Nvidia cards. All of my video cards have been XFX brand and my motherboard is EVGA. Both have been great and when problems, even years after I purchased the item, they gladly take my product and replace it.
They don't sell them here in sweden...
Bummer
You would need a better PSU, also does your motherboard support SLI? You could SLI 2 460's and get a better performance than a 480 if your monitor is under 2560x1600. Last time a checked too the SLI'd 460's (768mb version) were cheaper than the 480
