Hello! This is my first time attempting to build my own computer. I just need help seeing if the parts I picked are actually good parts. Parts selected: Proccesor 189.99 FX-8120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103961 Video card 144.99 Galaxy NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162079 motherboard 59.99 BIOSTAR A880G+ AM3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138283 Monitor 149.99 ASUS 1080p HDMI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236176 ram 54.99 Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233196 keyboard 44.99 SIDEWINDER X4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109191 mouse 64.99 G9x 5700 dpi http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104261 Power 64.99 Antec EarthWatts 650 Watts http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371044 Dvd drive/bluray 79.99 LG BLACK 12x Read-write blu-ray http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136241 Liquid cooling 64.99 CORSAIR Liquid CPU Cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181015 Hard drive 94.99 Barracuda 7200 RPM 500 gig HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148701 tower/case 59.99 Three Hundred Black Steel ATX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 That's a total of 1074.88 My purpose is both playing and creating games so I want the best of the best and the top of the line within a reasonable price range. I wouldn't want to go above 1200 dollars though. All help is appreciated. Thanks! get a 560ti instead replace the PSU with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088 [editline]1st May 2012[/editline]
I want the best of the best and the top of the line within a reasonable price range.
1k won't get you anywhere near top of the line, or even mid range.
Don't get an FX-8120 they're shit, get a 2500k or an ivy bridge or something, I'm not up to date with the new Intel processors. GTX 550 isn't very powerful and with that budget you can do a lot better, look into a 7850/7870 or something along those lines, don't replace the PSU with the one linked in the post above, so expensive for what you get SeaSonic or not, there are reliable power supplies for much cheaper. Keyboard you may want to grab a cheaper mechanical like a black widow or quickfire rapid, and do you need a blu-ray player/burner? It's late, someone else will fill in the rest.
Then again prices have dropped [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] my automerge
1k won't get you anywhere near top of the line, or even mid range.
$1,000-$1,200 is more than enough for a fantastic build even with peripherals.
$1,000-$1,200 is more than enough for a fantastic build even with peripherals.
i was thinking as if it were last august, my medium - high build cost about $1300 (p67) [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] the parts im using are cheaper now though [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] regardless top of the line is gonna be about 4,000 [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] not including monitor
-Do not get that shitty cooler. Either get a good full watercooling setup or an air cooler. In your budget I reccomend an air cooler. Hyper 212 or something. -Get a core i5 2500k, the new ivy brifge cpu's arrent better value yet. AMD isnt really good atm. -Get a motherboard from the following brands: MSI, EVGA, Intell , Asus or GIGABYTE. Biostar isnt bad but it isnt very good either. -Get a better GPU. Nvidia:560ti AMD:/7850/7870/6950/6970 the 550 is weak.
1k won't get you anywhere near top of the line, or even mid range.
That is so wrong...
That is so wrong...
The 3960x alone is over $1,000
The 3960x alone is over $1,000
So... you don't need the top of the line Intel CPU to have a great comp. Those CPUs are for professional work. A $300 Ivy Bridge CPU is more than enough for most everything a normal user would need to do.
Why am I the only one that can see these words?

within a reasonable price range. I wouldn't want to go above 1200 dollars though.
3960x is definitely not reasonable for such a price range. Perhaps he wanted the best for his budget?
