(DETROIT FREE PRESS) -- An Armada teen whose body was found in a wooded area north of the Macomb Orchard trail two weeks ago died of blunt head trauma and asphyxia due to neck compression, according to a death certificate filed today in the Macomb County Clerk's Office. April Millsap's death certificate states that the approximate interval between onset and death was minutes and lists her manner of death as a homicide. Her dog, Penny, led joggers to her body in a ditch near the trail July 24. She was 14. Authorities hadn't released how she died, except to say there were no gunshot or stab wounds. A task force of local, state and federal authorities have been working to determine who killed her. Earlier today, Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said authorities were not releasing any new information. About 200 people attended April's funeralFriday in Armada. About a mile from the church, a police dive team searched a lake close to the crime scene looking for evidence. A week after April's body was found, police and FBI agents investigating her death stopped vehicles entering and leaving the village in hopes of finding information pertinent to the case.
http://www.wzzm13.com/story/news/crime/2014/08/06/april-millsap-cause-of-death/13703871/
ARMADA, MI -- In a rural community about 35 miles northeast of Detroit, the investigation into the mysterious death of 14-year-old middle school student April Millsap continues. State police, who are members of a task force searching for the killer, said in a statement Tuesday that detectives have interviewed relatives and Millsap's boyfriend, "but they are not considered suspects in her death." A couple walking along wooded Macomb Orchard Trail found the teen's body under guard by the Millsap family collie, "Penny." April set out for a walk with the dog hours earlier and never returned home. An autopsy confirmed that April was killed, but Armada police Chief Howard Smith on Friday declined comment on how she died, other than that she was neither shot nor stabbed. "Omg. ... I think I'm being kidnapped," said an ominous text message from April's phone to her boyfriend on the night she died. Investigators have consulted with FBI experts, who say potential suspects may show an excessive interest in the case or have unexplained absences from their regular activities, police said. Two motor vehicles may have some connection to the disappearance, police said. They include a gray, painter's-type van with many dents in it, with two while males inside, and a small-capacity blue and white motorcycle with a young male rider. Authorities are asking anyone who was riding a motorcycle in the area last week, or who might have seen April on July 24, call the state police tip line, 877 616-4677. April just graduated from Armada Middle School and was to start high school in the fall.
http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2014/07/death_of_armada_teen_april_mil.html

I'm surprised that she could text that while being kidnapped. I can't text stealthily worth shit.
with two while males inside
What.
Her dog, Penny, led joggers to her body in a ditch near the trail July 24 :(
how do you even manage to text that while being kidnapped??
If the suspect(s) weren't planning on murdering her, she may have resisted or have been caught trying to send another message, which may have resulted in the kidnapper(s) killing her.
wonder how long until people victim blame as if she "Could have done something more!!!" PLEASE don't blame the victim, it's not right at all what do you even do in that situation?, jesus, thats terrible
If the suspect(s) weren't planning on murdering her, she may have resisted or have been caught trying to send another message, which may have resulted in the kidnapper(s) killing her.
pretty sad to think that it might have been all she could have done about it too
Oh ok, Detroit(-ish).
What.
They saw two suspects, identified as caucasian males, driving the van. Is that so hard to understand?
They saw two suspects, identified as caucasian males, driving the van. Is that so hard to understand?
I believe what he was trying to mention was that white male was misspelled as while male.
I believe what he was trying to mention was that white male was misspelled as while male.
Oh, hard to notice on a phone screen.
what do you even do in that situation?, jesus, thats terrible
Call the police
Seriously, 911 needs a texting service. There are citizens who can't speak or hear plus situations where people cannot talk such as this situation.
Seriously, 911 needs a texting service. There are citizens who can't speak or hear plus situations where people cannot talk such as this situation.
With all our modern tech you should be able to send your phone's gps coordinates to the authorities if you are a victim in a crime.
Call the police
yes because they totally aren't going to notice you whispering "I'm being kidnapped" and then saying what is happening and where you are they knew she was texting, you think calling someone is any better?
If you call and just leave it on and don't answer, they'll come find you (if they know where the call came from) I know this because when I was 7, I was playing "wrestling" with my phones. One of them died and had to call 911.
fuck you got me I would have never thought of that
The police always check where the call came from, false alarm or not There are times where when someone has a domestic, they call the police and act like they're talking to a family member or the local pizza joint I don't really know if the police has the technology to get your GPS location, though

It's not the most accurate because stuff like buildings and trees and where you have your phone can affect it. For GPS, it's a bit harder. Generally because everyone will bitch and lobby about such GPS usage and how it violates privacy laws and all that.
Seriously, 911 needs a texting service. There are citizens who can't speak or hear plus situations where people cannot talk such as this situation.
This does exist, just not many places have it implemented. My county has it implemented, though!
Who the fuck takes the time to text anyone when they're being kidnapped, and not dial the 5-0 and leave the phone in your pocket or some shit.
Who the fuck takes the time to text anyone when they're being kidnapped, and not dial the 5-0 and leave the phone in your pocket or some shit.
To be fair, it's not common to get murdered whilst walking your dog. I doubt she really thought anything bad was going to happen, she probably just got weird vibes from the guy and decided to text her friend to keep her mind off of it. If I was walking my dog and some creep was walking behind me, I'd chalk it down to me being paranoid. I wouldn't think: "I should call the police because this guy looks like he's gonna murder me" [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] I hope the guy gets caught.

Look at the life in her eyes. She was beautiful and happy and had her entire life ahead of her. And someone just randomly killed her. Damn it all.
If she'd been armed with a pitbull this wouldn't have happened. A collie? No one is afraid of a collie. If she went out for a walk in a lonely place thinking she was safe because she had a collie with her, that's sad.

Armada is like, 15 miles north of my parents house. It's weird because it's the on the very very outskirts of metro-Detroit. Everyone has heard of 8 mile, Armada is on 36 mile. It's a quiet town where nothing like this happens, really sad. I know quite a few people from Armada, everyone is shook up.
I live in one of the next cities over, Richmond. There's a ton of people wearing "Justice for April" shirts and tying pink ribbons up everywhere.
Oh ok, Detroit(-ish).
"Southeastern Michigan" =/= Detroit. Places like Armada are somewhat small rural communities populated by hicks and old people where nothing ever happens. This shit is a huge shock to everyone in the area and opens up a lot of fears about safety in public. Normally you could take a walk any time you wanted in a place like this without worrying. I take night walks around here all the time without even thinking about it, but now I'm not so sure.
yes because they totally aren't going to notice you whispering "I'm being kidnapped" and then saying what is happening and where you are they knew she was texting, you think calling someone is any better?
They can track her phone's GPS. All she would need to say is help or something like that and then stash the phone in the nearest orifice

They may not look intimidating but if anyone attacked me they would rip them appart.
