While you aren't the same Valve you used to be; I love everything you do for the PC gaming world Valve.
Now just get back to focusing on games.
I hope people don't overdo it, or else we will end up like french supermarkets. Literally every item in those has some kind of discount on them otherwise people won't buy stuff.
Wonder if this will lower the significance of seasonal sales
I don't think it will, I think people prepare for the holiday sales like black friday so they can buy a bunch at a time.
I kind of wonder if some people will make their game really expensive but keep it on a permanent sale so it looks like you're getting a good deal out of it.
Possibly, but I'm also sure the date the sale ends would be stated on the page, so you could at least spot that.

Doubt that Valve would allow such discounts and I think the effect of a sale makes impulse buying way better for the developers.

"Custom Discount: You can also configure your own custom discount amount and date".
I also do not see why they shouldn't be allowed to, if they want to have it on sale for a year, let them have it on sale for a year, that's their choice.

For some reason I wouldn't count on them to keep that in check.
I can't wait for the first company to get their password stolen and their game set to 99% off or free if that's possible. I wonder if Valve would reverse the transactions.

Here I come, entire Train Simulator DLC!
can't wait for a developer to troll people by making their game 99% off between 12:00 am and 12:01 am

There's a 2 week maximum on custom sales

Or just pick up indie games from bundles.
Half of the fun comes from getting stuff I'd never have bought by itself, I've discovered a few really good games recently like that.

It clutters the marketplace and reduces its value to the customer, that's a pretty good reason for Valve to limit it.

Using Steamworks developer tools requires Steam Guard to be activated.

The marketplace is already cluttered to all hell, so I don't know what kind of argument that is.
Also Valve want the steam store to be completely self-sustained by the people selling games and want all games to be allowed there, obviously self-controlled sales and the like follows with that.

Dota 2 and CS:GO are not games?
Here I come, entire Train Simulator DLC!
It'd still cost you like 2 dollars.
This is why digital distribution is king on PC. Imagine trying to setup a discount as a developer for your game that you put up on the shelves of a gamestop or whatever. Even when you do jump through whatever hoops you need to, there's probably still a waiting period for the news to get out, and even then you can't instantly mail a big "50% off, free weekend" flyer to every single person who buys games at gamestop, for free.

DotA 2 is the sequel of a game that they haven't created. CS:GO was created in partnership with another close company to where VALVe is. Kite_shugo (I believe) is saying that VALVe should focus on creating games similar to Half-Life 2 or Portal 2.

Yes you are correct; Hell I'm all for a new IP from Valve. I welcome it actually

I walked into one a few months ago - with absolutely no sale signs (this was like a one day gap considering they were back a day later). Me and the girl had a laugh about it then I walked out waiting for the game to go on sale.
As silly as it seems putting things on a permanent sale - with the sheer number of games they sell, they can't go around putting on thousands of sale stickers on each game then take them off a week later. So they just leave lots of games on the one sale sticker then occasionally further mark them down or put them in one of the centre stands.

Usually I've seen little signs saying 'Everything here $20'
