Thing is, its not even really a mod, its a number change in a file already made.
Wish people sites were just calling ubisoft out on there bullshit instead of just calling it a mod.
You are still MODifying the games files
it's sad that a mod for free does it better than a major AAA HQ spending Billions does a shiiter job

This was probably going to be re-added in a patch at some point. This guy just did it ahead of Ubisoft.
Also, he didn't make the effects and performance bits, he just put them back in. Not sure why exactly it was taken out to begin with other than Sony and / or Microsoft telling them to so Consoles have a better chance at staying in the game.

You modify something. It's a mod.
Modifying

A mod or modification is the alteration of the program code of a video game in order to make it operate in a manner different from its original version.
Yes, yes it is.
Modifying a config file to make the game do what it can already do isn't really a mod tho is it.
It's a bit different from regular config file editing in that they didn't intend for the player to find this stuff or exploit it. Like a mod that enables an unused texture or weapon found in the game files.

Oh shut up.
This guy just went in and unlocked the stuff already in it. Ubisoft did the work already, it just wasn't ready for launch.

Seems to me to be well within the 'regular' config edit lines (Though still a mod) along with stuff like modifying your DOF in the configs and so forth.
Looks good, too bad it will be an absolute performance disa-
The thing is, not only do these effects look better, they actually perform better than the existing stuff. Seriously, people are reporting a 5 to 10fps increase when using the improved visuals.
what
You are still MODifying the games files
We can fuck around semantics all day but its not a mod in the sense people and news sites are making it seem to be.
It was something created by Ubisoft and in place in the vanilla game. Changing a value from 0 to 1 to enable already present settings is not a mod, would you tell me that changing my resolution is now a mod?
Its a tweak/setting.

You don't have to use a file extractor to change your resolution

what
I can confirm that. Even on my old FX 6100 cpu I have an fps improvement, while also allowing me to turn a few settings up. I couldn't play with DoF before because it turned the game into a slideshow. I can actively use the dynamic DoF now (Still turned off because effect is too strong a the moment.)
"tweak" would be less misleading
"Hidden graphical settings unlocker" even less so. Either way, Ubi done fucked up, big time :v:
"tweak" would be less misleading
But that would still be a mod. For example in Bethesda games, my favorite mods aren't much more than tweaks.

it's still arguing for the sake of arguing
