• Help my friend find a gaming laptop on a (really fucking) low budget

3 years ago my friend wanted a computer he could play games on. I recommended some parts for him and told him what to look for. He went and bought a Mac anyway. This year, he wants something to play games once again. I tell him he should look for a desktop. He insists on a laptop.
5:36 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: i still recommend desktop 5:36 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: cause you cna upgrade and shit 5:37 PM - McDubs: if i get a desktop I still need to pay for a router to hook it up to 5:37 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: You... have to own a router 5:37 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: how else would your laptop connect to the internet 5:37 PM - McDubs: NO 5:37 PM - McDubs: MY PERSONAL ROUTER 5:37 PM - McDubs: DMAN IT 5:37 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: what 5:37 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: why... 5:38 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: why 5:38 PM - McDubs: IT DOESNT HAV 5:38 PM - cow.Avatar Meatloaf: what room is your router in 5:38 PM - McDubs: DESKTOPS DONT GHAVE BILT IN WIFI
His budget is $750, and I know that's unrealistic for a laptop that can run games other than Sims or something. Anyway, if there IS anything out there for $750, or a little bit over, $780 he says, he'd appreciate any help. And no he doesn't do anything but browse funnyjunk and reddit and play shitty video games so it doesn't have to have any special features or shit. He's not even going away or anything it's just for use at home. In the meantime I'll keep trying to convince him to get a desktop.
You can get an expansion card for WiFi. Because that's the only reason I see why he doesn't want a PC.
Just poppin' in to say $750 ain't all that unrealistic for a gaming laptop, I picked up my G53SW for 50bux less than that and it serves me fine runnin' pretty much anything up to PS2 emulators (and my friend got a lenovo off Amazon with an AMD processor/gpu that does around 70% what this puter does for $500) also your friend's retarded and should follow the above advice given by tratzz because gaming on a desktop is overall a lot more pleasant
You can get a WiFi pcie card for like $20, I get that he's a friend of yours but honestly don't even help him if he doesn't take your advice anyways.
I am usually one to berate people who jump in and say not to get a gaming laptop, however in this instance (just because of the wifi thing) I agree that you shouldn't help him unless he either puts forwards a more coherent reason why he wants a laptop, or agrees to get a desktop.
I guess a lenovo y series. He sounds like a dick though from the looks of that chatlog. Tell him he can get a wireless usb adapter for like $15.
Sounds like a faggot. But yeah his argument is invalid, you get a wireless USB adapter and then, as if by magic, your computer can connect to wifi networks *mystical sounds*
I don't even have the slightest clue what hes talking about in that chat. What's the difference between a router and a personal router? Edit: OH. Hes talking about a Wifi Card/Wireless Adapter. Hes sounds like a fucking dumbass.

I'm not sure if he means "Personal router" as in his own router and not his ISP's. Oooooooor, no clue.
That chat belongs in sipwicket. Also a $750 laptop will be perfectly capable of gaming.
BTO has one laptop on sale that may do for him (http://www.bto.eu/html/home.asp). Give your friend a firm slap, he deserves it.
You must handle this situation very carefully this time my friend, he is in great danger of getting a MacBook.
If your friend still stick with laptop, you can look at here for a clue (User was permabanned for this post ("adbot/account" - Orkel))
