Wanted to post this without making a huge Weezer thread. Ah well. [t]http://f0.bcbits.com/img/a0194376138_10.jpg[/t] Operation Space Opera is essentially a cover recreation of the album "Songs From The Black Hole". Songs from the Black Hole (SFTBH) is an unreleased, unfinished Weezer album. A space themed rock opera, it was originally envisioned as the follow-up album to The Blue Album, but over the course of recording, the album's concept was discarded and the album was transformed into Pinkerton. SFTBH was, in the words of songwriter Rivers Cuomo, "supposed to be a whole album of songs transed together," meaning a seamless flow from one song to the next (previous examples of this technique include the closing medley of The Beatles' Abbey Road and various Pink Floyd albums including The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here). Whilst working under the theme of space-rock, it also deals with Cuomo's pressure and stress during life on the road with Weezer. It's a tad over-produced, but it's pretty amazing to see what this album would've sounded like if it was officially finished. Definitely worth a free download for any Pinkerton-era Weezer fans out there.
Sounds pretty cool, I'll have to check that out.
Unfortunately you can tell pretty well where some of the "album-fillers" are. Finally got a full look at it though, and it's pretty impressive story-wise.
Thanks for the love, but
It's a tad over-produced
I put it together in my bedroom on a laptop, costing a grand total of $0.00 to make. There is no possible way it could be any less "produced". But cheers anyways.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I believe that the original bandcamp has added a Q&A that answers a lot of questions about the "original" album plan by Rivers Cuomo. It's really a shame that he took a different path, as Weezer would have succeeded past their current "generic pop" situation they're currently stuck in.
i fuckin love this album and it basically got me in to weezer. i mean i prefer a lot of the demos in most cases now, but it's still a goddamn good listen. The O:SA's changed perspective "Waiting On You" was a fantastic change in perspective though And I'll be sure to check that album out!
just listen to this opening melody, swear to god they sound exactly like weezer [editline]13th January 2014[/editline] can this just be the weezer thread i wanted to make one but im lazy

Awesome band. dat outro acoustic
that spacey synth intro on battlescars is probably my favorite part of the album [editline]15th January 2014[/editline] tera melos is another band that takes heavy influence from weezer, but they operate in more of a math rock idiom they did a crazy cover of blast off:
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I was so glad they released it on the deluxe edition.
sooooo the album's been deleted. anyone got an upload [editline]31st July 2014[/editline] (not warez; the album was free)
I have the original zip file. When I downloaded this a few months ago, I thought it felt bloated and full of filler. I ended up making my own recut version by dropping the songs that were redundant to Pinkerton (because I prefer the finished versions), combining couplets of short tracks into one, and other modifications. I even embedded the old fan-made purple album cover into them so it would look more like a Weezer album. After all of that, I still don't find myself listening to it. I didn't find the story interesting to begin with, I felt like the mood changes felt forced, and I get the feeling that just before the band gave up on the concept they were trying to shoehorn a message into it by including a tweaked version of Longtime Sunshine. The highlights of the album IMO were Blast Off!, You Won't Get With Me Tonight, Superfriend, You Gave Your Love To Me Softly, and I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams. Outside of these five tracks and the ones which were included in Pinkerton, which in total only comprise 1/3 of the tracks, I don't think the rest warranted a release. Longtime Sunshine is a special case because I think it's original version included on Cuomo's "Alone" album is the arrangement that should have been released. If you look at what we got instead, I think you'd agree they made the right decision. Not only do we have Pinkerton, which many consider the band's masterpiece, but we also have Matt Sharp's Return of the Rentals, which used many of the same ideas, techniques, and even included the same backup singers that would have sung the female roles on Songs From The Black Hole. However, The Rentals' album cuts out most of the melodrama that would have plagued SFTBH, making the end result significantly more palatable.
i actually like black hole better than pinkerton tbh; blast off, you won't get with me tonight, you gave your love to me softly and i just threw out the love of my dreams are the best songs weezer ever did [editline]31st July 2014[/editline] + longtime sunshine
What's the most vanilla official Weezer version of Songs from the Black Hole?
