All Burritos Should Be Delivered By a Bomber Like This One

Remember the Tacocopter, that delicious hoax? Thought that may not have been real, the Burrito Bomber is, and though it may not be able to bomb a burritos at you yet, maybe someday it will. After all, the onslaught of food drones is pretty much inevitable.
Developed by Darwin Aerospace, the Buritto Bomber is completely open-source and mostly made from things you can get your hands on, so you could (theoretically) build your own. The body is a SkyWalker X8 Flying Wing, it flies using Ardupilot and drops its mail-tube burrito bombs using a Quantum RTR Bomb System. The drop-site is designated by app, and the drone can either make the run autonomously or with manual steering if you want to take a ride.
Unfortunately commercial use of the Burrito Bomber or any food drone is illegal right now due to restrictions by the FAA but that could change in 2015. That's a long time to wait for a burrito though. You might be better off buying one the old-fashioned way and just throwing it up in the air. Or, you know, eating it.
MORE INFO ON THE BURRITO BOMBER (VIA WEBSITE)

Earlier this year, the world was brought to its knees when it was cruelly teased with the promise of tasty Mexican treats being delivered via quadcopter. We believe everyone deserves carne asada when they want it and so today, we make that dream a reality. We’re proud to introduce: Burrito Bomber -- truly the world's first airborne mexican food delivery system.
It works like this:
1) You connect to the Burrito Bomber web-app and order a burrito. Your smartphone sends your current location to our server, which generates a waypoint file compatible with the drone's autopilot.
2)We upload the waypoint file to the drone and load your burrito in to our custom made Burrito Delivery Tube.
3)The drone flies to your location and releases the Burrito Delivery Tube. The burrito parachutes down to you, the drone flies itself home, and you enjoy your carne asada.
We built Burrito Bomber using a handful of open source projects and some new bits we created ourselves. All the code and 3D models we created for Burrito Bomber are on our GitHub page so you can build one too!
The airframe is a SkyWalker X8 Flying Wing. The plane uses Ardupilot to navigate the skies. The Burrito release mechanism is the combination of a Quantum RTR Bomb System, a 3" diameter mailing tube, and some 3D printed parts we designed in-house. The plane is controllable either manually via live video transmitted from the plane or autonomously using the Ardupilot autopilot. We use a Futaba 9C controller and EzUHF transmitter to manually control the plane. Check out the parts list for further details.
The web app is built in Flask. It gets the user's location via the HTML5 Geolocation API, generates a Mission Planner compatible waypoint file, then sends that to the drone operator. The drone operator uploads the waypoint file to the plane.
Unfortunately, Burrito Bomber as a commercial product is not yet allowed under current FAA guidelines. However, the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 requires the FAA to hammer out regulations for commercial use drones by September 2015. This means in 2015 we'll be able to take to the skies to bring you your burrito faster than you can say "¡Salsa roja por favor!".

Wait, so is it legal to fly my own personal burrito bomber? I could really use one of these.
Saw only "meet the burrito bomber;" and thought it was some really terrible Mexican terrorist plot.
Just a little over one century after the Wright brothers give us powered flight, we now have unmanned aircraft airdropping mexican food. So marches the progress of human innovation.

The weirdest feeling.
Let the burrito drop. But seriously, this is amazing; if drone technology could be adapted to carry and deliver other fast foods, like pizza or fried chicken, that would be pretty sciencey.

I thought it was a stealth bomber sold to Mexico.

it would make every stoners life if we could order airdropped pizzas

exactly what peaked my interests
now we need "Laser guided burrito missiles" so they can go directly through my window :D

I think perfecting burritos should be our first objective, since they have a compact, cylindrical, easily airdroppable shape. The areodynamics of a pizza requires heavy post-release calculations because of the disc shape, and a chicken wing would just tumble unpredictably.

Hopefully we'll have that application of drone tech in the mainstream by '27.

Just put a basket full of towels underneath the window and make sure not to accidentally close it.

To be able to put down my bong or shotglass and catch a pizza in my backyard would be the ultimate field sobriety test.
I've learned to avoid anything called the "burrito bomber"
The tube + parachute will add too much to the cost. The inaccuracy of the parachute drop will also limit the usefulness.
The taco copter makes far more sense conceptually for a food delivery service.
All that said, while food tends to have fairly narrow profit margins, I feel like other products might benefit from this sort of delivery service. Something a little more pricey, so the cost of the tube will be negligible percentage-wise.

To hell with the Wrights, I want my mouth terror bombed by Burrito Zeppelins.

this is how the military is going to help pay off the debt when we get back from Afghanistan
See, this is the only bombs we need on this planet.

But the Burrito bomber has much more speed, so the burrito is hot when it gets to you.
It just needs to be able to dive bomb.
Someone figure out how to mount one on my roof to get a burrito any time. Instant nobel prize.
Suddenly carpet bombing campaigns got more delicious.
Perhaps instead of a parachute, it was more of a drop-pod type design? So there is slightly less troubles with accuracy because it won't be affected by wind as much.
[editline]10th December 2012[/editline]
I'm sure it would be easier to calculate where it would land with a drop-pod than having to take into affect winds

love the idea but I could see that being a little more dangerous,
And then the prices for toilets skyrocket

Actually, a LALO drop from a dive-bomber would probably be just about the most accurate you can get without getting into mounting an electronic guidiance-system on the burrito-tube itself.

Burrito-bomber 2.0
They had planned to deliver mail by rocket in the 50s but discontinued it because they didn't mail food.
Level bombing is just not accurate enough compared to the possibilities of dive bombing. Of course, dive bombing would be limited by GPS accuracy, unless you could like, use your smartphone as a target-flare once you get a visual on the UAV, so it goes by GPS to get to your general area, then uses visual targetting and IR/light-based lock-on to get the point-target. This way, you could in theory be able to get it close enough to catch mid-drop.

Imagine getting your food delivered with this sound

X8. EzUHF Rx. OSD. GPS.
I see at least $1,300 in that thing.
Suddenly carpet bombing campaigns got more delicious.
Now I want to set off a cluster bomb filled with burritos just to annoy local authorities.
This is all I can envision..

This could be the revolution in sending people hundreds of pizzas. Just imagine the aerial bombardments of food!
Quadcopters would make much more sense for this purpose, but hey, it's food from the sky, not complaining.
