• I got a motherfuckin virus

So at some point a virus got onto my computer. It opened itself and began masquerading as an antivirus program (XP Security 2011). I, in my infinite wisdom, saw through its shadowy veneer because anti-virus programs don't download themselves onto your computer for free (if only they did). So I opened up ad-aware and quarantined that bitch. After using my computer for a little while I discovered that I can no longer use the start menu for anything, and whenever I open a program, I have to select the program with which to open it from a list (like when you have an unknown file type). This usually opens the program, but it didn't work on Spybot S&D. I started my computer in safe mode and continued my various attempts at removing the virus, but found that its effects were still present EVEN IN SAFE MODE. In a fit of rage, I found the exe it was operating from in my WINDOWS folder and deleted it. After this, I discovered that I actually needed to somehow work with the virus in order to "shut it off" before removing it from my computer (according to these instructions: http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-win-7-home-security-2011) Can anyone tell me how to save my computer? It's still usable but it's annoying as fuck. I'm also worried about keyloggers and such. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] also, it redirects all google search results, so you have to copy the link location and paste it into your address bar. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] So far, the only program it seems to have completely broken other than Spybot is the registry editor.
Download Malware Bytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, do a full system scan on both of those, see what it finds.
Just a thought, get rid of ad aware. It went to shit like a few years ago, which is evident now but yeah. And as the above said, malwarebytes.

If worst comes to worst you can still reformat (Assuming you have your Windows 7 Serial and cannot find a solution).
Bleeping computer.
Bleeping computer.
That's quite good advice actually. Bleeping Computer has some amazing staff and are VERY experienced in this type of work. If you can, I would also highly suggest giving them a try.
I already have MalwareBytes as well. I was doing a full system scan for over 4 hours before I gave up and played Portal 2. I'll scan again with MalwareBytes and Ad-Aware simultaneously tonight while I sleep. I'm not sure I'll be able to install any new programs like Microsoft Security Essentials while it's in this state because of how it treats .exes. Thanks for the help for now. I will report back tomorrow. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] I will also check out Bleeping Computer tomorrow.

Okay, so I checked my scans and MalwareBytes got 5 things and Ad-Aware got 1. I will post the log when I get internet back for my main computer. The awesome news is that it seems to have fixed everything! Thanks MalwareBytes!
In the future, boot in safe mode with networking. The fake-av doesn't load so then you can run whatever you like to scan.
Safe mode didn't protect me from this one.
whenever i get a virus i watch as much porn as i can before my identity gets stolen

I got this a while ago without doing anything, I tried everything and it wouldn't go away, ended up doing that HDD upgrade I wanted to do along with a W7 reinstall :/
The easiest way, is it has many Executable programs running at the same time, just to screw with you. I had recently gotten this, and found the easiest way to get rid of it is to use: Rogue Kill (it is programmed to end all of those nasty programs conspiring against you.) And MalwareBytes, i know someone has mentioned it, but this should just be the icing to the cake since it gets rid of most of everything that has screwed with anything on your computer, and its FREE.
Here's what MalwareBytes picked up btw
i <3 malwarebytes, it got rid of my porn viruses in a snap
