I recently thought I'd like to try my hand at making music on the computer and I don't want to fork out any cash.
Out of These free Music Softwares, LMMS looks really good:

...But I was wondering if there is some widely used piece of software for this sort of thing?
Oh, and don't suggest audacity, it's not music software.
Free? - I'd take Ardour over anything. (I've tracked a 16 track Live band recording with it, Stable..)
Non Free? - It's either Cubase or Pro tools.
However, My primary usage is Audio and not MIDI sequencing.
I'd definitely go for FL studios if I were to go non free, I'll look at ardour now.
Ok, problem, I need software for windows.
If there is a free piece of software with this functionality then I'm sold.

Right ok LMMS is awesome.
Yeah, I've been bugging around with LMMS for quite some time now, it's quite a bit hard to get it all first, but easy once you know the basics.
