• Is there a way to make steam download games faster?

I'm downloading Bioshock Infinite, and it took three hours to get to 50%.
It's really all down to your home connection, you could try going into your steam settings and under downloads change your server region to somewhere closest to your current location. Aside from that download one game at a time and ensure there are no other programs running that take up bandwidth (torrent clients being the most common)
I have, closest is my homecity of Chicago. No torrents are running, and Bioshock is the only thing installing. It's Bioshock Infinite, with all the dlc and the game itself, it's a fucking huge game to download. And it's frustrating that I hit 50% at around 8:25, and it's 8:52, and I'm only at 56%!!! [editline]25th March 2014[/editline] Ok I'm trying CCleaner, maybe it'll help.
I think you just need a bit of patience, some dont even have that speed. At home my connection is only 1mb, It would take 3 days nonstop downloading.
buy better internet
buy better internet
Comcast. Me and my family are waiting on baited breath for Google Fiber to come in.
The downloads tab in settings also has a bandwidth limit. Is it set to anything?
The downloads tab in settings also has a bandwidth limit. Is it set to anything?
there's no limit.

It's finally done. It took 7 fucking hours! 5pm to Midnight to download. and at 34 gigs total with all the dlc and main game. Fucking hell Levine.

I know blah blah someone always has it worse, but I can't even watch YouTube videos at 360p without having to pause and wait for the video to buffer. And I (I myself, not my parents or someone else as I live by myself) have to pay $70 per month for this and the telephone line rental.

Thats why i bought Infinite as a box.
Thats why i bought Infinite as a box.
Yea, some games you can buy physically, but still need to download other bits. Maybe not Bioshock, but MMOs and shit.
I guess I have a decent rig and all. But the insallation's of any game eats up my bandwith. Meaning "scratchy" videoplay and music.
Turn the Monitor onto the right side. The bar will go down faster!
You may want to save larger games for downloading at night when you aren't already sucking up all of your bandwidth with other crap. If you've got a large game downloading in Steam, it's gonna screw up your Netflix, playing other online games and worse...prons.
Have you rubbed your modem with cheetah blood?
dont use wifi and plug ethernet cable in computer. Go to a college and use their internet connection, at my college I can literally download all three bioshock games in about 3 hours or less

Luckily my father's company pays for good internet for us because he works from home. The next neighborhood over has fiber optics (not google fiber, but still, optics are nice), and supposedly they get pretty good speeds. Could always be faster, but you know, cable companies are literally one of the most evil companies in America (or the world, but I can't speak on that) when it comes to actually providing the service we pay for. Second only to gas companies, I'd say. [editline]27th March 2014[/editline] Hell, even cigarettes have a big red logo saying "THIS WILL KILL YOU SLOWLY." Cable Companies false advertise enough as it is, why not make them just have a big red logo saying how shit they are on their commercials, modems, and cables
